Free Republic's (1/9) poll on Republican candidates' liberal positions that would be deal killers
Free Republic Poll ^ | 1/9/2008 | Jim Robinson

Posted on 01/09/2008 5:17:20 PM PST by Jim Robinson

(1/9) If the eventual Republican presidential nominee has a record including one or more of the following non-conservative positions, would you vote for him anyway or which item specifically would most likely be a deal killer?

Click on source link above to respond to the poll.

Three or more liberal positions on critical issues would definitely kill the deal in my book.

The way I see it:

X = Candidate holds or has record of non-conservative position. W = Weak or mixed positions.

Candidate Abortion/ Gay Rights Open Borders/ Amnesty Gun Control Tax and Spend Nanny Stater Untrustworthy Spinner
Flip flopper
Campaign Finance Reform

Giuliani X X X - - X X

Huckabee - X - X X X W

Hunter - - - - - - -

McCain W X W W W X X

Romney X X W W X X X

Thompson - - - - - - X

Thompson and Hunter are most conservative, but I prefer Thompson because Hunter's going to have a tough time making himself known and jumping from the House to the Presidency.

Please correct me where I'm wrong.

I can’t picture Huckabee being strong on defense. He’s too into lefty interpretations of scripture. Of course they all read Free Republic, and now he will be beefing up his warfare stance.

Won't vote for an open-borders/amnesty Republican. Better to suffer through four years of a democrat and still maintain a party that has a shred of integrity remaining than to sell out to win The White House. Then we will, indeed, have sold out the country's future.

In other words, "What profit is there to a party that sells out its principles to win The White House but which has lost its soul."

Keyes is still the only one who is the whole package.

He's the only one who understands the Constitution, that's for sure.

“I know the poll has just been put up, but I’m shocked at the number that will vote ‘R’ no matter what.”

Do you remember one of the first debates many months ago when Duncan Hunter referred to some of his fellow candidates as , “THE KENNEDY WING OF THE REPUBLICAN PARTY”?

THAT is why Hunter is out of the media coverage and the debates. He told the truth. CAN’T have that! Not to mention stopping any discussion of China and immigration.

McCain, Huckabee, Rudy....look who they’re giving us...LOOK who the media and globalist pundits are pushing!

I think we should start calling it exactly what it is, don’t you? Hunter, as usual, called it first and called it right.

“THE KENNEDY WING OF THE REPUBLICAN PARTY”

California’s Arnold is certainly a perfect example.

“Past deeds count more than current promises.”

That needs to be shouted from the housetops here. Why do so many people want to ignore their favorite RINO’s past deeds (record)? How can people be so gullible?

I believe Thompson has disavowed CFR so not sure if there should be an X there or not.

If we go on what the candidates say now, rather than their record then we'd have to make Mitt the most conservative of all. Thompson's got a good record other than that one issue.

” Three or more liberal positions on critical issues would definitely kill the deal in my book.”

That’s how I see it. I’d say your view is pretty-much my own....on the rest of it.

Fred did disavow CFR and stated that he is for unlimited donations and online disclosure. For me, I removed his X for CFR.

Except for Thompson and Hunter, your chart is really depressing.

The GOP lineup is pretty depressing. Conservatives are being pushed out of the party.

Perhaps we should also vote on the candidates (W, X, or -) for each category.

Hopefully this is a decision that we won't have to face, but if we do it will be heart-wrenching and contentious here on FR.

Your graphic of the candidates confirms that the GOP with the helpof the Enemedia has chosen Moderates,Liberals and fools as our selections for President. Thompson and Hunter are the only conservatives in the field. It's plain as day that conservatives have been kicked to the curb.

Hard to be when even folks like yourself exclude him from consideration.

But, I’ll stand up anyhow when they start to exclude Fred too.

Won’t matter much, though. By then, all that will remain are total RINOs, probably.
