COLUMBIA, S.C. - Excitement surrounding presidential politics in South Carolina continues to grow as South Carolina Republican Party Chairman Katon Dawson today announced that invitations have been extended to and accepted by six Republican presidential candidates to participate in the 2008 South Republican Party Presidential Candidates Debate in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

"The stakes couldn't be higher this election, and we couldn't be more excited to extend a warm South Carolina welcome to six White House hopefuls who are seeking the Republican nomination to be the next President of the United States," said Dawson. "These candidates join tens of thousands of Republicans from across the country and hundreds of journalists from around the world who are converging on Myrtle Beach for this debate because they know the 2008 election could be decided on our stage that night."

The following candidates will be receiving formal invitations from the South Carolina Republican Party to the 2008 South Carolina Republican Party Presidential Candidates Debate (in alphabetical order):

Former Mayor Rudy Giuliani - New York City

Former Governor Mike Huckabee - Arkansas

U.S. Senator John McCain - Arizona

U.S. Congressman Ron Paul - Texas

Former Governor Mitt Romney - Massachusetts

Former U.S. Senator Fred Thompson - Tennessee

Candidates who received invitations to participate in the debate have announced formal campaigns for president; filed the necessary paperwork with the Federal Election Commission and the South Carolina Republican Party to run for president; paid all candidate filing fees associated with their candidacy; met all U. S. constitutional requirements; and garnered at least 5% of the national electorate as determined by an average of the most recent national telephone polls of registered voters conducted by non-partisan public opinion polling organizations leading up to the registration deadline as determined by the South Carolina Republican Party and FOX News Channel; or, place in the top five in the New Hampshire Republican Presidential Primary on January 8, 2008.

The 2008 South Republican Party Presidential Candidates Debate will be televised live by FOX News Channel at 9:00 PM from the Myrtle Beach Convention Center on Thursday, January 10, 2008. FOX News Channel Washington Managing Editor Brit Hume will moderate the debate while FOX News anchor Chris Wallace and White House Correspondent Wendell Goler will ask questions of the candidates.

FOX News Radio (FNR) will also provide listeners with live debate coverage beginning at 9 PM/ET. FNR’s Mike Majchrowitz will anchor the debate live from inside the hall. Following the debate, Majchrowitz and FNR Political Analyst and Washington Post columnist Jeff Birnbaum will provide post-debate analysis. They will be joined by FOX News Radio Correspondent Todd Starnes and several special guests live from “Spin Alley”.

I’m glad I saw your post. I’m sure that I recall Duncan Hunter spending at least an entire month last Summer campaigning in Iowa. Yet, this past week, his supporters have said he never went there. But he did, so why deny it? Thanks for validating that Hunter did campaign there.

Hunter spent a total of 3 days campaigning in Iowa prior to the straw poll. He has not spend a month anywhere. But thanks for the bump

So much for divvvvvvvvversity and incluuuuuuuuusion and the much heralded "BIG TENT"-ism (including everyone) within the Grand Old Party.

Expanding the GOP and all that crap, doncha know.

Then the Party expects solid conservatives to be on board with them in the General Election to support a Republican In Name Only? What is wrong with this picture.

I get the circular, Catch 22 logic here. Deny coverage and black out the candidate's voice and picture and name (make him an asterik), he polls low, and, well, because he polls low, deny him further coverage. Great system. The only reason this is done is become he is an unquestionable conservative.

I would get retired military and family members of military in SC to start calling the SC GOP and FOX News in masse and demand the debate be opened to Congressman Hunter.

According to this link, 27 events/14 days spent in Iowa, not a whole month but more than 3 days.

“They come, handwringing to us in late October, PLEADING FOR US TO VOTE FOR THE GOP NOMINEE, otherwise they say the election will go to the big bad Democrats.”

Just like they can’t give us any excuse now except ‘My guy can beat hillary!!” That covers 4 candidates. They all think that and it’s their biggest talking point. That and insults, rumors, marginalization. And that’s what you’ll get in October. They won’t plead, they won’t be nice, they’ll be just as despicable as they’ve always been.

I’ll vote for Obama before I’ll vote for Rudy, McCain or Huckabee. He can beat her. Then ‘the Kennedy Wing of the Republican party’ can finally get what they wished for....someone who can beat Hillary as the only qualification for office.

I believe that to be incorrect, though he did make it there for the debates.

They decided that actually having a delegate from comming in THIRD in Wyoming and wining the South Carolina Straw Poll is not relevant. The decision of independent voters in NH is more important that the voters in SC.

ChiCom Murdoch thinks he can decide our future.

Except the South Carolina Republicans didn't mention "nationally recognized", did they?

No, they did't. I did. I was giving you a hint.

And how does that get measured?

That's the question I asked you to answer. I originally asked you to come up with other ways other then polls and previous primary results.

But there's little in their criteria that would count as "dirty tricks" or any other conspiracy.

Many Hunter supporters disagree.

Should the NFL decide who gets in the playoffs based on the results of the exhibition season and the first three games?

They are criteria that have nothing to do with South Carolina.
Hunter almost won the SC Straw Poll and came in third in Wyoming. Allowing independent New Hampshirites decide things for South Carolina is ridiculous.

“Everybody’s unavailable.

What a bunch of cowards!

SC is proud of their heritage.

Tell them they’re acting like doormats for elite New Yorkers and shafting a military veteran for a liberal pos.”

I am FURIOUS!

We can always leave a message on their machine, and ask our friends to, as well.

I told Fox News and Rob Godfrey ANSWERING MACHINES that Duncan Hunter fought for our freedom of speech, and so did his son, so Hunter should also be allowed free speech.

Here’s the info again for those interested in helping:

Why New Hampshire, which allows non-Republicans to vote, over Wyoming which is Republican only?
Why ignore delegates?
The Criteria stink and would have stunk if they kept out any other serious candidate.

People from US Military Bases in Japan (Yokota, Yokosuka, Atsugi NAF, Sasebo, Misawa, Sagamihara, Negishi, etc) on active duty, hailing from the Palmetto State (on their off hours, of course, and from personal laptops) will be sending their protests to the GOP in SC. Will be interesting to see what the response is.

The party and the mainstream media (including FOX) have ignored Hunter from day one. This leaves Fred as the sole conservative and he isn’t exactly setting the campaign trail on fire either.
