I'm a Romney supporter, and I'm a Mormon. This analysis validates a concern I've had as a Mormon for some time that Romney's candidacy may actually wind up hurting the LDS Church. After all, Ted Kennedy and Jimmy Carter, taken on their own, don't make me think too fondly of Catholics and Baptists.

There are some on Free Republic that oppose Romney specifically because they are afraid his election would legitimize Mormonism and lead to a surge in the growth of the LDS Church. That this is a political consideration for them is something I have condemned in the strongest terms. Nevertheless, I think it's an assumption based on a false premise.

People voted against Mitt because he is a flip-flopper.

TO ALL WHO WANT TO HELP US TO BELIEVE WHAT YOU BELIEVE ABOUT CHRIST AND HOW HE GUIDES HIS PEOPLE ON EARTH.

If this thread is like most others that have anything to do with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, or as we are more often called, the Mormons, it will soon be taken over by those who, for reasons of their own, choose to put down my Church, and those of us who worship with it.

We find no problem with people who really want to talk to us about converting to their religion, we spend a lot of time doing it ourselves.

What we find offensive is when people leave out part of the truth to make a half-true lie , or when some one renames something, that we find important or sacred, so it sounds like gutter talk.

I do not know how to tell the difference all the time. There are some Handles that keep showing up, and they are easy to spot. Sometimes, though, I have given a hard and not so kind response to some who honestly care for us and our salvation.

Please forgive us if we get you mixed up.

Thanks for your time,
fred

‘After all, Ted Kennedy and Jimmy Carter, taken on their own, don’t make me think too fondly of Catholics and Baptists. ‘

The irony is in 1976 the headline was ‘Evangelicals for Carter’....(chuckle)

We all know how that worked out....at least those of us born before 1960 do.

I’ve got a religious bias question, for you.

If relgion is not important, why do 92% of Mitt Romney’s donations come from Utah?

Could it be that Mormons (such as yourself) disproportionately favor Romney because he’s a fellow Mormon?

Sounds like religious bias to me.

Amazing to think the world could hurt the things of the Lord, when God plan is already known in the end the only thing not known is who will be among the elect!

The Church grows by the Power of the Holy Ghost and no other way.

I guess some here thinks it is like a Spa membership!

Many people on the left (and perhaps a few on the right) find the word “evangelism” to be very scary. It doesn’t matter whether we are talking about Mormons or “evangelical” Christians. Unless I’m mistaken, evangelism is simply talking to people. It’s not like beheading.

I wonder if we have the same debate for Liberal Christians who deny most of what evangelicals hold dear, or agnostics?

How could you vote for anyone at all if you assume his personal religious views are his likely policies? Guiliani? Out! McCain? Out! Thompson? Out!

Not a good approach to litmus test someone for political office based on passing church admission tests...

Whatever you think of Mormonism, Romney doesn’t seem to be a big LDS-pusher. His career has shown a dearth of comments at all about LDS. He has been about effective management and making tons of money. He started Bain Capital in 1984 with $37 million, and his first investment? Staples, Inc. He funded its expansion from 1 store to 1,700. Bain Capital now manages $50 billion. Meanwhile G.W. Bush lost money on three successive business ventures, even with the biggest political connections in the nation.

“Carrie Sheffield, a member of the LDS Church, is a writer living in Washington, D.C.”

Oh man, since when has a tainted source like that EVER been acceptable to any of the Mormon apologists? ? ?

The Fact is that Mitt is by the nature of the situation a proselytizer for Mormonism, it is the elephant in the living room. One Can argue whether the outcome will be good or bad for Mormonism, but it is damn hard to argue that a non-trivial portion of the base will be consumed by the issue for the next 8 years IF Romney was elected.

As Mormonism comes more into the limelight, its heresies become more clear. It’s only when it’s allowed to run under the radar that it gains adherents.

I’m all for Romney becoming President. imagine how much scrutiny his heretical faith will receive! It’ll be wonderful to have Joseph Smith and his friends so closely evaluated! :-)

“I’m a Romney supporter, and I’m a Mormon.”

I have a question for you and I really mean no disrespect by this but; would you really be a Romney supporter if you were NOT a Mormon? Ff yes, can you tell me what specific policies of his that you support the most?

Thank you.

I can sympathize with your feelings...
I have fears as well for the whole of Christianity (or at least how Liberals, and non-Christians view us) were Huckabee to be elected, frankly.

i wouldn’t be surprised if both Mormon and Christian ranks DECLINE after all this bickering and religious food fighting. It’s pathetic and not attractive in the least.

After all, Ted Kennedy and Jimmy Carter, taken on their own, don't make me think too fondly of Catholics and Baptists.

When I think of Ted Kennedy and Jimmy Carter I don't think "Catholic" and "Baptist", I think "drunk murderer-traitor" and "incompetent Arabist-traitor." They certainly don't cause me to think differently about their professed relgions.

Rather shallow and very bigoted of you to make a judgment on those faiths based on just two loser politicians.
