Secular America looks at the rise of Mike Huckabee and fears the growing influence of evangelical Christians in the political process.
This evangelical Christian columnist fears it too, for exactly the opposite reason.
Huckabees win in the Iowa caucuses, and his sudden viability as a candidate for the Republican presidential nomination, owes to one thing and one thing only. Large numbers of evangelical voters are looking for someone to represent their values, and Huckabee is the only candidate who seems to do so.

>I agree that the federal government shouldnt set up domestic policy but the federal government already has by going to the USSC overriding state decisions leaving only one option, having the federal government fix their wrongs.
Then the fix is to FORCE the issue from the Feds back to the states. You don’t write the law at the federal level to address the moral issue itself, i.e., a law that protects the rights of the states to legislate abortion as opposed to taking a side.
Really drank the left’s koolaid where Falwell is concerned?
No, I talked to my two cousins who attended his college.
Like I said, I sympathize with them because to them it’s not a pretend war, it’s an issue that means life in every aspect of their own life.
>No. I was merely speaking to your statement, giving an example proving it false.
Well, I was explaining why the example was not false. The fact that Christ left the laws intact means society can continue to legislate and punish.
>Can a single evangelical out there supply the list of three fourths of all states in the United States of America in 2008 that would ratify EITHER a Right to Life Amendment OR a Right to Abortion Amendment?
But I COULD see 3/4s of the state pass an amendment that protected the right of the states to legislate on abortion (whether for or against).
The feds will not relinquish the issue back to the states, they have ruled and only federal legislation can change it now to get it back to the states.
No, I talked to my two cousins who attended his college.
Really, well based on my conversationw with friends who also attended his college, your characterization of Falwell is utter hogwash.
I doubt it she is rabid about mental health issues and benefits to the point of being blinded.
>The feds will not relinquish the issue back to the states, they have ruled and only federal legislation can change it now to get it back to the states.
They have ruled and now the only way is FOR the Feds to address the problem. I would not say “never”, though.
We need EVERYONE so don't be distracted!... to have a chance in our fight with the evil-left (MSM, ACLU, Hollywood, Teachers Association, the religious LEFT :)... etc) to do this.
Very true. Important message.
Wrong, some of us learned our lesson with Carter.
States have tried, from banning abortion to grasshopper control and has been met with federal courts siding with the grasshoppers and murderers.
If that is your point, I have no problem with that, and I would suggest that no one else does either- Who is suggesting that society cannot legislate and punish?
We’ll see shortly.
It addresses Huckabee’s willingness to grant clemency to murderers and rapist who praise Jesus and claim that they have changed.
In my view, Huckabee allows his religious views to taint how the state should be acting. The state is there to ensure justice. Mercy was already factored in at the time of punishment.
Don’t lose hope—keep working on her! :0)
Look, I recognize that states have tried and get slammed by the feds. My point is that we should not be fighting for an amendment to prohibit abortion. That would never pass 3/4s of the states.
Pass an amendment prohibiting the feds from legislating on the issue, and preserving the issue to the states to legislate on. That has a decent chance of passing. But some (often evangelicals) want nothing less than a 100% prohibition on abortion at the federal level.
Ain’t gonna happen.
