How will Fred get 50,000 Friends by Friday (Jan 11)
myself ^ | Jan 7, 2007 | ReveBM

Posted on 01/07/2008 10:54:02 AM PST by ReveBM

I notice that Fred has a goal of $500,000 and 50,000 new friends by this Friday. The $$$ seems doable but the friends goal is a mystery to me. They are only at about 2,500 now. Aside from all of the other questions about Fred's candidacy, how will he reach this goal of 50,000 friends?

I signed up my wife yesterday, so she's already in the Friend number. Most people I know here in NJ love Obama.

Any thoughts, strategies, on how to help? I'm trying to brainstorm here, and I assume that Fred wants new people in this 50,000 "gene pool", not just any other fan on Free Republic who has not already hit the "Friend of Fred" button.

I look forward to your suggestions, sarcasm, or "Fred should withdraw now and endorse [insert name here]" comments.

Copy this letter and mail to ten of your freinds. Who, in turn, will mail it to ten of their friends................

Hunter will endorse Fred in less than 5 minutes. Don’t think that will help much towards the 500,000 though.

I’m a Fred supporter and I’m also crazy. So here’s a crazy idea. Have a concert web cast. Get all the country stars that support him to perform. Charge 10 bucks for the concert and maybe he gets to 500,000. a big web fundrasier.

We’ve been donating money but I realized yesterday that we hadn’t officially joined as Friends of Fred. I’ll have to do that and then send off some emails.

Me, too. So I just signed up, and sent the site to a couple of friends who will probably sign up as well.

Maybe it would help if you would post a link to Fred’s site so that people here can sign up.

That book changed my life. It made me almost likable if I really put effort into it.

Cmon, it's not hard to type in wwww.fred08.com, it's right on the front page.

I think though I will pursue the Country Music angle, I'll look up all the country music star websites my limited knowledge in that area contains, and tell them that "it's time to put up or shut up". I'll also fire off a personal email to the NRA begging them to get off their butts.

Can someone else create a nice looking link (like I’ve seen elsewhere on FR)? I’m no good at doing that.

I don’t think he will. But he will reach his money goal, I think.

The Friends goal was just way too ambitious.

OK, here's an off-the-wall idea. I'm going to troll some English language web-boards in India, and try to convince people there that a Fred Thompson presidency would be good for US-India relations.

After I have a pack of followers or agreeable go-along types, I will ask them to hook into their network of friends at call centers in Bangalore. They will set up a call script to insert into their regular routine, like, how to help fix your Dell computer, your last credit card statement, whatever they usually talk about at Indian call centers, something like:

"You sound like just the kind of patriotic, freedom-loving American that should be supporting Fred Thompson for President. Let me instruct you on how to become a Friend of Fred."

Thompson can follow the lead of the Demoncrats by using their tried and true tactics.

1. Sign up dead people
2. Sign up felons
3. Get on MySpace and woo kids who are too young to vote. Vote or Die!!!

Of course, these won’t do much for his funding goals. Guess he’ll just have to find some dishwashers at Chinese buffets...
