Like you, I would have a very hard time voting for Rudy Giuliani. In reality, even he has flipped on numerous positions. He said on national TV in the 90's that no private citizen should be allowed to own a handgun. Now, he is trying to say that he supports that right in some places. He was originally against the partial-birth abortion ban, but now he's for it. He ran a sanctuary city. I'm not sure whether he's truly turned away from that policy or whether he's just trying to accuse others of doing the same.

I wouldn't be happy about voting for John McCain, but I could vote for him if necessary. If he had a good V.P. candidate, that vote would be even easier. I don't think his health is good enough for him to live through eight years in the White House. I don't care that his mother is a healthy 92. His mother didn't spend those years as a prisoner in Vietnam, and life expectancies can be different for men and women within a family.

Of the others, there are polarizing things about each of them, but those traits don't have to define the candidate. I think Mitt Romney is the best of this group because of his executive experience. I'm worried that the bigots will refuse to support a Mormon, but I have worries about all of them. Fred Thompson could have been the least polarizing figure if some of his supporters weren't so intent on driving people away from him.

FYI, Mormons don’t vote in lockstep. The Congressman from Salt Lake County is a moderate Democrat.

Utah’s support for Romney doesn’t derive anywhere near as much from his being Mormon as it does for him saving the taxpayers hundreds of millions in the Olympics. Those things truly were a disaster unfolding until he saved their bacon.

Nobody wants to be held up as a laughingstock to the world. The SL Olympics were well on the way to that until his involvement. A lot of Utah families do overflow to Wyoming, but not necessarily Mormon. The Utah support for Romney is multi religion.

What do you mean “win?” Are there additional delegates for whoever gets the most delegates?

No, I believe Hunter is that guy (with the best chance to not split the vote)... he has more values voter appeal, and more experience... etc..

True, but things don't look so good for him right now.

Romney picks up another one from the Mormon strongholds.

Thanks for the news. That's good news for Mr. Romney and good news for the country.

You let anonymous internet posters impact your actions to that extent? Bizarre, to say the least.

Actually, I've seen a little bit of the same thing from some people in real life. They aren't as bad as some of the people here, but they are bad also. When all is said and done, we really aren't that anonymous anymore. The web is no longer just a game or a pretend laboratory for discussing these events.

There probably will be additional with restoration of the 50%, but they will be proportionate.

Needing 6 to “win” just indicates no one else can have more given that Hunter and Thompson already split 2.

Hush. The people failing to vote for Fred do have their own convictions and priorities too. The bigger problem has always been media bias and ignoring good news and his own efforts.

Thanks. =) Be careful resaving that jpeg, though, they lose image quality through repeated compressions.

I was thinking the same thing.

Instead of worrying about how anonymous posters in messageboards act, I pay more attention to how the liberal media act, and they make it pretty clear that they view Fred as their biggest threat.

I’d rather have Hillary. I’d rather see Satan in face than under a Ken doll mask.

Mittbots here go from one extreme to the other...they are either bashing or bawling....you must love their man or you’re a basher, and they bawl “I’m gonna take my ball and go home!”....they think politics is softball. Hilarious!

Yes or no, do a candidate's supporters reflect on that candidate? When the news broke about Larry Craig being arrested for cruising men's rooms looking for bathroom sex, the Mitt Romney campaign dropped him as a supporter. The campaign didn't want to be associated with that kind of behavior. When Dick Morris was arrested for hiring prostitutes and sucking their toes, even the Clintons dropped him as a consultant. They didn't want to be associated with that kind of behavior.

I realize that internet forums are rougher and uglier than other venues for political discussion, but people still represent their candidates. They wouldn't be posting if they didn't want to represent their candidates. Based on the representation that Mr. Thompson has received from his most rabid supporters on Free Republic, I'm not inclined to vote for him at all. Others of his supporters are good people, and they've done a great deal to mitigate the damage. However, I have no longer have any interest in supporting Mr. Thompson.

Again, my point is that Fred Thompson came into the race as the candidate least likely to split the party. I don't think he's really any more conservative than Mitt Romney is, but I don't think he's a bad guy. Eight months ago, I would have been happy to support him if he'd won the nomination. Instead, the worst of his supporters are driving me away and likely driving away other voters who would otherwise have been happy to support Mr. Thompson if he had won the nomination.

Bill
