............You let anonymous internet posters impact your actions to that extent? Bizarre, to say the least............

I was thinking the same thing.

Instead of worrying about how anonymous posters in messageboards act, I pay more attention to how the liberal media act, and they make it pretty clear that they view Fred as their biggest threat.

Yes or no, do a candidate's supporters reflect on that candidate? When the news broke about Larry Craig being arrested for cruising men's rooms looking for bathroom sex, the Mitt Romney campaign dropped him as a supporter. The campaign didn't want to be associated with that kind of behavior. When Dick Morris was arrested for hiring prostitutes and sucking their toes, even the Clintons dropped him as a consultant. They didn't want to be associated with that kind of behavior.

I realize that internet forums are rougher and uglier than other venues for political discussion, but people still represent their candidates. They wouldn't be posting if they didn't want to represent their candidates. Based on the representation that Mr. Thompson has received from his most rabid supporters on Free Republic, I'm not inclined to vote for him at all. Others of his supporters are good people, and they've done a great deal to mitigate the damage. However, I have no longer have any interest in supporting Mr. Thompson.

Again, my point is that Fred Thompson came into the race as the candidate least likely to split the party. I don't think he's really any more conservative than Mitt Romney is, but I don't think he's a bad guy. Eight months ago, I would have been happy to support him if he'd won the nomination. Instead, the worst of his supporters are driving me away and likely driving away other voters who would otherwise have been happy to support Mr. Thompson if he had won the nomination.
