Mammoth Could Shed Light on Warming

TOKYO - Frozen in much the state it died some 37,500 years ago, a Siberian mammoth undergoing tests in Japan could finally explain why the beasts were driven to extinction - and shed light on climate change, scientists said Friday.

The calf, unearthed in May by a reindeer herder in northern Siberia's remote Yamal-Nenets autonomous region, is virtually intact and even has some fur, though the tail and ear of the animal dubbed "Lyuba" were apparently bitten off.

"Lyuba's discovery is an historic event," said Bernard Buigues, vice president of the Geneva-based International Mammoth Committee. "It could tell us why this species didn't survive ... and shed light on the fate of human beings."

Uh -oh...time to connect the dots to global warming.

There was an article on FR just yesterday about insects being a factor in the dinosaurs demise.

As usual, these idiotic scientists HAVENT FINISHED their autopsy of the mammoth and jumped to the conclusion its global warming.

Cant they just say: the dinosaurs died due to the a range of acceptable possibilities?

Permafrost - earth that remains frozen year-round - lies under much of Siberia but scientists fear that global warming will cause it to melt and could accelerate climate change by releasing large amounts of warming carbon dioxide gases into the atmosphere.

Okay. This GW stuff is becoming the ultimate in triangulation. Blame as much as you can on GW and nobody will be able to argue all of it at once. So which is it? Is CO2 causing GW which may cause ice to melt and release more CO2, or is the earth warming in a natural cycle which is releasing more CO2?

And what REALLY gets me is that nowhere in any of the articles does it ever say that CO2 is a minute portion of green house gases.

"It could tell us why this species didn't survive ... and shed light on the fate of human beings." (... ) Our findings will be a big step toward resolving the mystery of their extinction," Suzuki told a press conference in Tokyo.

White coat hype? How's one frozen calf gonna tell us so much? Wish someone would've asked Suzuki a few follow-up questions.

I’m guessing that the mammoth froze to death...

“Bernard Buigues, vice president of the Geneva-based International Mammoth Committee. “It could tell us why this species didn’t survive ... and shed light on the fate of human beings.”

I’m sure this Buigues is eminently more educated than I, but hey...men are not mammoths. I guess that fact wasn’t included in his masters’ classes. We determine our ‘fate’ the same way we decided to crawl out of caves and change things.

Besides this is all rubbish. The global warming cult will tell you that the earf is only one hundred and fifty years old. That is where they base all of their ‘findings’ from.

There are a lot of mammoth finds right here in the USA. We have one in our local museum in Rochester, New York. The bug thing is new...but now we're getting into "multiple reasons" for extinction".

What the scientists need is "MORE GRANT MONEY" to reach their non-conclusions"!!

Fred Flintstone probably ran over it with his SUV.

I'm guessing that these beasts started wandering and mating became less and less....causing a natural die out.

Maybe if we looked into "elephant mating", we'd see some breeding problems.

They really wont find anything. They will say, “gee, this animal is full of warm weather fauna. How in the world did they die so quickly and get frozen.”

There are only a couple of ways that could happen. None of them are good. Best to just put the scapel down and back away from the Mammoth. Then forget about the whole meteor crashing down and killing everything on earth theory. No one wants to hear that.

GW melted the Great Northern Ice Sheet before people were even out of the caves. What caused it then? No SUVs to blame. No Industrial Revolution. No massive populations of humans. No hydrocarbon fuel heating in homes and businesses. No nothing except natural events and forces. It happened once, twice maybe a dozen time before man first spoke an intelligible word or drew a stick deer on a cave wall. GW is hokum, bogus, and downright stupidity and ignorance run amok...........

"It could tell us why this species didn't survive ... and shed light on the fate of human beings."

Our fate is known. We survived to create the Bach B Minor Mass, the Theory of Relativity, Islamic Jihad, and the Holocaust, and Al Gore. A mixed record at best.

I haven’t the citation, but I seem to recall reading about Mammoth finds - pretty much intact - in the 19th century in Siberia, what’s different with this one? Newer technology to analyze it?

Careful, there are those on this site who will brand you a Godless liar for implying that a creature could possible be older than Eden.
