"Toyota Motor Corp. overtook Ford Motor Co. to become the No. 2 automaker by U.S. sales in 2007, using new products and relentless strategy to break Ford's 76-year lock on the position.
Toyota sold 2.62 million cars and trucks in 2007, which amounted to 48,226 more than Ford, according to sales figures released Thursday. Toyota's sales were up 3 percent for the year, buoyed by new products like the Toyota Tundra pickup, which saw sales jump 57 percent. Ford's sales fell 12 percent to 2.572 million vehicles."

Instead of giving baseball to the Japanese, we should have given them the UAW.
it was only a matter of time.
Toyota makes a much better vehicle than Ford.
I love my Tundra.
Thats the common perception. My corolla (prizm) has never had a problem. But I am heavily considering a Ford Taurus/500 as my next car. Ford makes the safest, biggest, most affordable car I can find. I can handle small problems with autos. To me, safety is #1.
The UAW will now be representing Black Jack dealers at Foxwoods Casinos in Connecticut where they produce and sell even fewer cars than Ford does.
While a few still buy GMC or Ford or even Dodge because they refuse to go along with the crowd, Toyota is the choice around here.
I saw a Ford Edge on the road today and I have to say it is a good looking ride.
Ford and GM have a long way to go to convince American buyers that their product is as good in the quality department as the Asian and German manufacturers. I think they are just about there in quality but they really need to get their designers to produce more attractive product. Ford did just that with the Edge and I hope that stimulates some forward thinking on their part.
My two cents worth of advice to GM and Ford: Make those dumb looking badges about half as big as they are now. They are far too big.
I love my F250 and my Excursion.
These US companies need to be taken away from the MBA- and lawyer-CEOs and turned over to people who spend their lives in automobiles.
These are the companies which in the past gave us great cars like Mustangs and Chevy Impalas that had great appeal, great performance, and low cost. Now they all look alike (ugly), cost a fortune, and come with lousy and expensive service.
The MBA/lawyer clowns look at ways they can squeeze another nickel out of some-customer desired feature, treat their employees like dirt (inviting even more quality defects), and employ every move they can to make their products undesirable.
Hey you bankrupt-prone clowns! - design the next Mustang (looks, cost, performance, appeal) and you might start selling cars.
Ford responded by placing a massive ad buy in homosexually-oriented magazines and periodicals. “We’re thinking about exploring the transvestite and pedophile market as well,” a spokesman for the company said.
I drove a F250 diesel 4x4 this morning. Nice ride.
I think most of the vehicles sold here by Toyota are made here.
I know the Tundra and Camry are. Don’t know about the rest.
I bought a 2007 Tundra last October for my birthday. I have loved every single mile!!
I hated my Ford so much that I parked it behind the barn, so I seldom have to look at it. ;>)
A business associate of mine, riding in his new Ford 500 was hit head-on at highway speeds by a drunk in a massive Ford Excursion.
This associate was uninjured but the impact was so severe he was unconcious and had to be extracted. Those viewing the wreck found it impossible that the driver escaped, let alone uninjured other than soreness in joints, etcetera.
That being said, Bill Ford has a lot to answer for to stock holders as he converted factories and other structures to Green standards and hyped government involvement in automotive design and sales.
From first bolt to final paint, I wonder if Ford is even more American than Toyota these days?
“From first bolt to final paint, I wonder if Ford is even more American than Toyota these days?”
Good question. I know GM is using more and more Chinese sourced parts in their cars.
Yup. Let Ford or Chevy make as reliable a product, and I’ll be over just as soon as my current set of wheels need replacing. (It’s a Honda Civic, so that will be in about 200,000 miles.)
