For those who have doubts that Ron Paul would be an acceptable commander in chief, your doubts would have been absolutely confirmed if you listened to him this morning on WHO 1040 talk radio in Des Moines, Iowa.
He came on Jan Mickelson's show at about 8:50am, Pacific Time. I was the second caller.
After complimenting him on his commitment to the Constitution, I asked a question about foreign policy. If any of you can pull the podcast, you can hear the conversation.
The question went something like this: Dr. Paul, if a shipment of nuclear tipped missiles was heading from North Korea to Iran, knowing the position of Ahmadinejad and the mullahs, would you stop that ship or sink it?
His answer was stunning. He very quickly answwered, "No, why would we do that?" After that question back to me, he commented that there was almost zero chance of that happening. He said that if he knew they planned to use them against us, he would take action. But they know they would be obliterated.
I wanted to challenge him further over Iran's stated goal of destroying Israel, but I was apparently cut off by the host and couldn't do it.
There you go, folks. Dr. Paul is an unthinkable commander in chief.
He doesn't need to spend millions on an organization; Paul's supporters are out there in Iowa canvassing, motivated on their own.
The $20 million raised in the 4Q says otherwise.
>> Does Paul have some structure on the ground in Iowa to get voters to caucus?
Whatever else one thinks of Paul, and I certainly do not support him, the authentic grass roots, boots on the ground campaigning together with very insightful internet fund raising has been impressive.
Paul would've done the same thing. There's this thingy called the State Department, you know. It won't get abolished under Paul.
Only a journalist would call them "insurgents". Terrorists or proxy soldiers would be more appropriate.
Rare slip from me. I've always called them terrorists, though.
Anyway, Bush applied an increase in troops and used a strategy of maintaining areas under control (sometimes known as "the surge"). It has been quite effective...significant reductions in injuries, economy returning to normal, etc.
It has been effective now because of pressure from McCain. Where was it from the get-go?
Pakistan and Russia are not yet led by radical Islamists. Neither has publicly advocated incinerating Israel. When Ahmadinejad tells us what he plans to do to Israel, I take him for his word that such is what he wants to do.
Yes, it is possible that he could get the weapons secretly. We must do everything we can to stop it. Dr. Paul won’t do that. If Iran gets nukes, they will be a nuclear blackmailer. We will be told to remove all presence from the Middle East (and perhaps other places) or they will threaten to use nukes to destroy infrastructure and stop the flow of oil to the West. That will destroy our economy, the world’s economy, and lead to the thousand years of darkness about which Ronald Reagan warned us.
Mercy.
Here’s the deal. Paul supporters want an appeaser. I want a warrior.
For a comment like that Rong Paul is dead in the water.
Man is insane to underestimate Iran.
People who follow him are a bunch of fools.
The Desperate will do anything.
Birds of a feather stick together.
It is a comedy...have a good laugh!

!
Israel has over 200 nukes of its own. There's no way Iran is going to attack her. That's all Ahmadinejad is, a trash-talker. He's no different than the loudmouth on the sidelines of a pickup basketball game.
We're just going to have to agree to disagree on this issue. If Fred is nominated, yes I'll vote for him but the GOP needs to start reaching out to Paul on the war and some of these issues. The GOP do not have the votes or money to defeat the Democrats in the general election, but unfortunately a lot of FReepers aren't looking at the bigger picture and would rather get some cheap licks in at Paul for now.
Be careful drinking tonight.
Play nicely with the Ron Haters.

Ahmadinejad is not a trash talker. He is a potentially suicidal Muslim. He doesn’t care if 90% of his country would be obliterated — he will have gone to his reward. You are making a presumption that we are dealing with rational people who care about personal survival. These are people who gleefully celebrate the death of their own children if they kill Jews. We have never faced an enemy like this. We want to live and prosper; they don’t care if they die, and actually prefer it if it is done as a martyr.
So H.Ross Perot was the best candidate we ever passed up? Is that where your reasoning takes us?
Thank you for your answer. I was trying to gauge if he has the potential to finish 3rd and from what you say, and the answer I got from another poster in regard to numbers on the ground, it appears that’s a possibility. I guess we’ll know shortly.
Ron Paul is a complete and total idiot. I won’t add anything else, it might upset someone.
I was thinking the same thing. Bush nor Clinton did anything to stop NK.
ROFL! I'm eating crow. No excuses here, but no, the Revolution is not "stillborn."
Patiently awaiting your spin. Are you going to claim vote fraud?
No spin, but keep in mind that Paul broke 10% in IA and he still beat Giuliani. That's huge. IA is heavily religious so the base went to Huckster. Some of the independents broke off and voted for Obama.
Paul still has the money and support to compete through Super Tuesday. This ain't over yet. YEEEAAARRRGGGHHH!!
Also Paul is going to do much better in states like WY and NH and MI.
“By creating false enemies and an insecure atmosphere, they try to control everything in the name of combatting terrorism”
Sounds like a Ron Paul quote, right?
Nope, it was Ahmadinejad
