Press Releases Contact: Brendan Daly/Nadeam Elshami 202-226-7616 For Immediate Release 01/02/2008 Pelosi Statement on Oil Prices Topping $100 a Barrel

Washington, D.C. – Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued the following statement today as the price of oil topped $100 per barrel:

“For the first time, the price of oil has risen to more than $100 a barrel – almost four times the price when President Bush took office.

“Last month, the New Direction Congress passed landmark energy security legislation that included a historic CAFE increase to boost fuel efficiency standards for our cars and trucks, a Renewable Fuels Standard to dramatically increase homegrown American biofuels that reduce our dependence on foreign oil, and requirements that root out manipulation of energy prices. This legislation, signed into law by the President, will save consumers money, create jobs, strengthen our national security, and reduce the threat of global warming.

“Congress also passed a significant increase in home heating assistance, and I urge the Bush Administration to release this much-needed funding for low-income families and seniors.

“Congress will continue to fight to make our energy supplies more secure and protect consumers from skyrocketing prices. It is unfortunate that President Bush opposed our legislation to repeal multi-billion dollar subsidies given to Big Oil companies. We will again seek to repeal these subsidies and to enact strong legislation to stop price gouging at the pump and pursue anti-trust actions against OPEC entities that fix the price of oil.”

“dumber than a box of rocks....”

She really is. It’s amazing we have a Speaker of the House, third in line to the Presidency, who doesn’t understand commodity markets.

Maybe someone ought to tell Nancy that the price hit over $100 on exactly ONE trade and the guy immediately sold it for a loss, simply so he could claim he was the first to buy $100 a barrel oil...

Hey, over 300% inflation in oil price is something worth commenting on. We haven’t lost such a large supply of oil or increased energy consumption that much in 8 years. So what is going on here? I know economics so I know that there is a market explanation. I just don’t know what it is.

I guess less taxes, more drilling and more refineries is not the answer Pelosi?

Personally, I like the fact the Dems Speakerette just confirmed they as a party don’t have a clue as to ‘how things work’ here in the real world.

Great way for 2008 to start...for the GOP.

I especially like her last para. What is the color of the sky of the planet she is living on? Make energy supplies secure? How? Protect consumers from sky rocketing prices? How?

The best thing we can do to secure energy supplies is to commence drilling up north in Alaska and in the Gulf of Mexico; and building more nuke power stations. Hell bells, the Japanese get tons of energy from nukes; so do the French. Why not us?

I guess these thoughts are way off the speaker’s agenda.

Amazing. The Arabs raise the price of oil and it is Bush’s fault.

Amazing.

She doesn’t know that $100/bbl oil hit one time by one trader, who resold it for less.

Either that, or she does know, but also knows that the media aren't going to report that minor fact. This allows for her to make some political hay out of this. And while we know the truth, the vast unwashed masses who don't know will fall for it... again.

The bigger point is that Nancy Pelosi and democrats said in 2006 “If you elect me, I will make gas prices go down”.

Try 900% over 9 years. It’s gone from $10/barrel to $100/barrel in that time.

Something is going wrong here.

That will do nothing but DRIVE UP the cost of oil, you lunatic woman. Lighter cars, more plastic and less steel...that will create more deaths on our streets. Amazing how much human life means so little to these liberal Dems.

New direction???? This is the same idiotic recipe that created the 1970's energy crisis that the Dems caused.

The Dems promised to reduce gas prices and they’ve gone up by more than 50 per cent since they were sworn in. Also it seems that the Dem energy bill focused entirely on conservation is not working.

More than 1.3 billion people in China; more than 1.1 billion in India. They all want to be warm in the winter, cool in the summer and drive an SUV as much as anyone.

This is clearly George Bush's fault!

(Pelosi is so stupid I'm surprised she remembers to breathe.)

"Speaker of the House,Pelosi third in line to the Presidency, who doesn’t understand commodity markets."

And, a presidential candidate, Hildabeast, who doesn't know that President Musharif, Pakistan, was re-elected for 5 years in October 2007. And, that Bhutto, the slain candidate, was running for a seat on Pakistan's Parliament.

As you can clearly see above, these are two individual women who don't know their a@@ from their elbows...

And, I truly resent it when Hildabeast gets herself into one of these kinds of ignorant traps that she involves ALL women in her mistakes.

Preview to Pelosi playing the gender card... Both of these women are inexperienced boobs.

All of the above comes from a woman... so they can just stick a sock in it.
