Fox News at 3:00 PM, now dissing the Iowa Caucus(inoculating against a Huckabee and Obama win?)
Fox News(Sheperd Smith and Carl Cameron) | January 2, 2008

Posted on 01/02/2008 12:08:43 PM PST by Dane

Watching Fox news and the lead at 3:00 PM EST, was a rant by Shepherd and Carl, saying how Iowa doesn't matter, as Roger Ailes and Fox News spent millions covering it.

I guess Roger & Co, at Fox will not like the results(Huckabee and Obama winning and getting momentum).

Roger Ailes and his friend Rush Limbaugh, are not amused, thus this little hissy fit.

"Roger Ailes and his friend Rush Limbaugh, are not amused, thus this little hissy fit."

I listen to Rush nearly every day and have for years. When the nameless Huckabee campaign aide released his statement about Rush and gave Rush an excuse to open up on Huckabee (just as he was polling in first place in Iowa and beginning to move nationwide,) I thought why would anybody in Huckabee's campaign do such an idiotic thing? I don't believe anyone did. I think the aide is anonymous because it's nothing but a GOP ruse and Rush is carrying water to knock off Huckabee for them. Last, but not least, I'm no Huckabee fan, but then I'm no fan of any of them except Duncan Hunter, which means I have NO candidate.

If Huckster wins Iowa, then he will become the south’s candidate of choice.
Fred is trailing Huckster in South Carolina as it is.

Actually, Rush said today that if Hillary loses in Iowa, you can expect the main MSM talking point to be “Iowa doesn’t matter anyway.”

B.J. Clinton did not win Iowa or NH in '92, but nonetheless went on to fame and fortune.

Iowa was written off by the dems in 92, because homestate Iowan Tom Harkin was running for President in 92.

“Actually if Huckabee can hold on to win it helps Thompson more than anyone if Fred can get around 20%.”

I fail to follow the logic here at all.

The first problem with your scenario is that Thompson hasn’t polled 20% in an Iowa poll ever. His high watermark was 19%, which came before Huckabee’s surge and Thompson’s steady decline from that point. If Huckabee does hold onto win, then it’s hard to see where Fred gets anywhere close to 20% from. 10% is more likely.

The second problem is with the notion of a Huckabee win helping Thompson after Iowa. Thompson’s campaign was always built on the idea of launching from South Carolina. Most recent polls show Thomspon in 4th place in SC 10 - 18% behind Huckabee. How is placing third in Iowa behind Huckabee going to give Thompson momentum to overcome that? Especially considering that in the interim Thompson will be doing well to beat Ron Paul for 5th in New Hampshire and Michigan.

IMO the only scenario that gives Thompson a chance (and it would still be a longshot) at this stage is a big-style Huckabee collapse in Iowa. Maybe he would pick up some of the debris, and then it puts a lot of votes in South Carolina back in the air.

I think it’s a lot more likely though that Thompson will pull out of the contest on Friday after a 4th place in Iowa.

Knocking Huckabee off isn’t for the party elite, believe me. He’s their cup of tea.

If Rush is knocking Huckabee, McStain and other leaders off, who benefits?

It sure isn’t the RINO leadership.

It’s Fred Thompson and conservatism in general that benefits.

And yes, you do have a candidate.

Rush has a very long track record for backing conservative candidates and he wants a conservative to win. Rudy, McCain, Huckabee and Romney are not conservative in general and many of their positions arrived on the campaign trail. Why are Huck supporters questioning Rush’s credentials now that he has exposed another in a long line of moderate to liberal Republicans. He has made no personal attacks just policy attacks. Rush is just being consistent.

“B.J. Clinton did not win Iowa or NH in ‘92, but nonetheless went on to fame and fortune.”

Clinton didn’t contest Iowa, nor did the other Democrat candidates. This years Republican caucus is not remotely analogous.

This after months of Fox News pushing the Iowa caucus and spending millions to cover it.

Not as fun as Aruba was.

All this democracy and voting and stuff is getting in the way of a lot of people’s hopes and dreams.

Fact is, Iowa isn't all that important, because it's skewed toward long meetings, and the people who can/will attend them. And it'll probably be more skewed this time due to weather and football. It rewards organization and enthusiasm, and not necessarily the general opinion even of Iowa's voters, much less those of the country at large.

The more telling results will take place in the primaries, where "participation" is less intrusive.

One hopes the Iowa and New Hampsire festivities will give their candidate the big MO. Those who don’t see their candidate doing well there (like me, LOL), will point out that a poor showing in Iowa doesn’t mean their candidate is toast.

Yes it’s important, but over all it isn’t quite what it’s been built up to be. In fact, it isn’t even close.

That doesn’t mean that your efforts are in vain. I appreciate your efforts and salute you for expending them.

My bet is Huck places no higher than 3rd tomorrow.
Why is the Huck and his supporters so thin skinned...taking on Rush, FOX, Pres. Bush, Reagan sure does not appear to be in the interest of their campaign or the R party or Conservatives. IMO Huck is running either in the wrong party or for reasons that are not honorable...

Huh, where are the attacks by Rush on McCain, Romney, and Guiliani, the day before the Iowa caucus.

Oh that's correct Iowa doesn't matter according to Rush.

JMO, you all live in a world of talking head absurdity.

Two good things will come from this year’s Iowa caucuses: Hillary and Huckabee will come in 3rd.

Yes, and half the time Hillary tries to do so as well.

“Look, we need to get Washington back on track.”

“Look, I’ve got the experience at the White House.”

Back to Huckabee... his views are a lot more mainstream if you compare his views with that of Congress.

Slick Willy showed us that it’s not necessarily a win that matters ,it’s beating expectations. The Huckster has rocketed and then come back down to earth. If he or Romney doesn’t make a very good showing it will hurt both their campaigns and throw the thing wide open. Romney having out spent every one at least 10-1 is already in a tither IMHO. I haven’t seen where Hucklberry is doing all that good in New Hampshire. Probably wishful thinking on my part but I see the possibility of this thing blowing up in every ones face and the clock being reset to zero.
