Vermont town seeks Bush, Cheney arrests
By DAVE GRAM, Associated Press Writer 6 minutes ago
President Bush may soon have a new reason to avoid left-leaning Vermont: In one town, activists want him subject to arrest for war crimes.
A group in Brattleboro is petitioning to put an item on a town meeting agenda in March that would make Bush and Vice President Cheney subject to arrest and indictment if they visit the southeastern Vermont community.
"This petition is as radical as the Declaration of Independence, and it draws on that tradition in claiming a universal jurisdiction when governments fail to do what they're supposed to do," said Kurt Daims, 54, a retired machinist leading the drive.
As president, Bush has visited every state except Vermont.
The town meeting, an annual exercise in which residents gather to vote on everything from fire department budgets to municipal policy, requires about 1,000 signatures to place a binding item on the agenda.
The measure asks: "Shall the Selectboard instruct the Town Attorney to draft indictments against President Bush and Vice President Cheney for crimes against our Constitution, and publish said indictment for consideration by other municipalities?"
The White House did not immediately respond to requests for comment Friday. The press office did not immediately respond to an e-mail.
Support for the measure is far from universal, even in Vermont, where the state Senate voted earlier this year to support impeaching the president. Anti-war rallies are regular occurrences here, and "Impeach Bush" bumper stickers are common.

It is a beautiful state, populated by arrogant butt wipes.
Yes, I have been there. For 15 years I lived and worked in upstate New York and had the sorry experience of having to deal with the complete morons who live in Vermont. Most Vermonters are arrogant, ill mannered, and completely unacquainted with common courtesy and practices of personal hygiene. Vermonters make the hillbillies of backwoods Tennessee look like MIT grads.
As to the buying a weapon in short order being in their Constitution, that will change. Any place dumb enough to elect Dean, a silver spooner from New York, Governor, is dumb enough to let that right slide right out the door, with the next order of Maple syrup.
You’re gonna intervene in your wife’s shopping selections?!
Man, you must have a death wish or want to spend a lot of nights out on the couch!
:)
Vermont is a really strange place.
You can carry a concealed firearm without a permit.
Legal age for carrying a firearm, longarm or sidearm, concealed or open, unaccompanied by an adult, is 16.
They have the best homeschool law in the country, where you can opt out of submitting to state curricula review and testing on religious grounds.
Other than that, their politics are WHACKED!
We live just a few miles from Brattleboro, on the NH side of the Connecticut River.
They recently had to pass a law in Brattleboro to prohibit public nudity. They had tolerated it for years, but it was beginning to have an adverse affect on tourism.
There used to be one guy walking around with a sandwich-board sign that said, “Ashamed of George Bush”
Brattleboro is CRAWLING with the looniest, whackiest, hippie wannabes and aging hippies.
I would venture there are more unclean, rope-haired dopers per-capita than in any major city.
The next town north, Putney, is almost normal. A very different world.
There is a nuclear reactor just south of Brattleboro, in Vernon.
Maybe there are emanations that are affecting their thinking.
Time for some extra tinfoil.
I sure don’t want to catch whatever it is they’ve got.
But I suspect not nearly as well-written, rational, or astute.
BDS combined with a pathological need for relevance and a blatant disregard for the facts is an ugly combo.
Oh,but you can...in Vermont,at least."Yes,Doc...whenever I smoke that s*it from Guatemala I hear voices telling me to go to Greenpeace Headquarters and demand..."
It only highlights how emotional and STUPID they are.
LOL
The town of Brattleboro should deputize Mr. Daims, and send him on his merry way to try and serve the writ. Heck, I'd even consider contributing to a fund for his airfare to Washington, DC.
“dangerous extremists” is exactly what the Clinton gang was.
Means about as much as any other “town” in America demanding a Congressional investigation of the Klintoon’s fund-raising/Chinese connection, and detaining them as “traitors”.....
a 54 year old jobless bum.
Oh Good Lord, don’t these people have lives at all? This is pathetic.
When was the last time anyone was charged with sedition?
And that's one of the few good things to come out of there since Ethan Allen and the Green Mountain Boys.
Even in Vermont, I don't believe the Selectboard, a legislative body, is allowed to draft indictments against anybody. That's a function of the relevant executive and/or judicial bodies. Little thing in the Constitution about Acts of Attainder, which are laws passed by a legislature declaring someone guilty of a crime.
The Selectboard is the equivalent of a city council, right?
Another reason I'm glad I voted for him.
Heck, I can answer that without google...."TOO LONG"!
By God, I’d pay money to watch them try.
Waaaaay too much drugs.
