Tortured Democrats
Washington Times ^ | December 26, 2007 | Mona Charen

Posted on 12/28/2007 5:59:27 AM PST by 3AngelaD

It didn't get much attention, but in mid-December, U.S. forces in Iraq discovered an al Qaeda torture center north of Baghdad. Muqdadiya is about 60 miles north of the capital. American soldiers found a blood-spattered room where chains still hung on the gory walls. A metal bed frame connected to an electric shock generator. The Americans also found bloody knives and swords. Outside, the bodies of 26 people were buried in common graves.

That al Qaeda has made rape, torture and murder its calling card in Iraq is not news....Last May...U.S. troops unearthed an even grislier site, an al Qaeda torture chamber in Baghdad itself. When they entered, the soldiers found an Iraqi man suspended from the ceiling by chains. The room contained torture implements including hammers, whips, meat cleavers and wire cutters as well as a crude torture manual...

It's useful to be reminded of what real torture looks like when the Democrats in Washington are working themselves into a froth about the CIA and the destroyed interrogation tapes...So now we will have an inquiry into whether the CIA has violated the law by destroying tapes it was under no obligation to make in the first place...

When Democrats talk of coverup and torture, we know they're referring to waterboarding, but the world doesn't...The controversy about waterboarding has completely obscured the reality of what is going on at Guantanamo, where inmates are gaining weight on the culturally sensitive diet, having surgeries to repair old injuries, reading their Korans and praying on the U.S.-supplied prayer mats, and conferring with their lawyers... All this comes against the backdrop of Iraq...if present trends continue, Iraq will not be the failure and disaster for the United States our enemies hoped for. Could it be the Democrats too are disappointed?

The democrats are heavily invested in our defeat, and they will keep trying to bring it about no matter what the cost.

It's useful to be reminded of what real torture looks like

when the Democrats in Washington are working themselves into a characteristic froth about the CIA and the destroyed interrogation tapes. Sen. Ted Kennedy, Massachusetts Democrat, declared that for "the past six years, the Bush administration has run roughshod over our ideals and the rule of law." It reminded him of nothing so much as the "18½-minute gap on the tapes of Richard Nixon." Sen. Richard Durbin, Illinois Democrat, smells "obstruction of justice."

A favorite tactic of the Libs is to draw false equivalences. When a DemocRAT is caught in some compromising or illegal act the Lib media busies itself with running endless stories about how it is "the system that is really at fault" or "both sides do it". The corrupt Lib politicians do the same, repeating (usually false) tales of moral equivalence between some Libs obvious perfidy and the actions of some conservative, even where there is NO equivalence at all. What is important is to endlessly repeat the charge until the conservatives tire if the fight, which they usually do.

The act of endlessly repeating the false claims of equivalence and framing the public debate along lines that tend to excuse the Libs actions no matter how evil or heinous is used over and over again. It is the conservatives own fault too for letting them get away with it. The Conservative politicians usually strive mightily to make the Lib MSM "like" them or at least not have the Lib MSM actively attack them. The conservative politicians in general, with a very few exceptions, just don't understand how to play the political game against Liberal fanatics and criminals.

Ted Kennedy talking about the rule of law! John Dillinger talking about the integrity of the banking system. Ted Bundy on the sanctity of life. No shame.

For six and a half months last year, I was living in Kentucky and my wife was living in Florida. During that time I checked the menu of the Guantanamo prisoners, and until my wife joined me here, those prisoners were eating better than I was! Therefore I have never been able to feel much sympathy for those in “Club Gitmo.” Compared with Afghanistan, Cuba must look like a tropical paradise, even when seen from a prison.

...at Guantanamo, where inmates are gaining weight on the culturally sensitive diet..."

I received a copy of the Guantanamo cookbook as a birthday present from my son. Believe me these guys eat well. The orange chicken is delicious by any standards. I am sure that these are standard military recipes selected for "cultural sensitivity", but they make food far better than what these terrorists deserve.
