Here’s another thing that makes no sense:

“she says she pays about $12,000.00 in taxes”

but....

“Taxes aren’t that high out here, so even at $7 an hour people can burn off their county taxes pretty quickly,”

"The elderly have a duty to die."

- Col. Gov. Roy Romer (circa 1992)

Does she still have a mortgage ..?? or is the house paid off by now ..??

If she still has a mortgage - then perhaps she could get a “reverse mortgage”.

Oops. My apologies to Gov. Roy Romer. It was Colorado Gov. Richard Lamm who said the elderly have a duty to die.

http://66.218.69.11/search/cache?ei=UTF-8&p=colorado+gov.+roy+romer+%28the+elderly+have+a+duty+to+die%29&fr=sfp&u=timelines.ws/states/COLORADO.HTML&w=colorado+gov+roy+romer+elderly+duty+duties+die&d=E4JkvbXiP-Wa&icp=1&.intl=us

1984 Richard Lamm, later governor of Colorado, was quoted as saying: the elderly "have a duty to die and get out of the way." (SFC, 7/21/96, Z1, p.9)

Babu: “Of course, it would never occur to these Lib bureaucrats to just lower property taxes.”

Nope. It wouldn’t. Plus, I bet all sorts of tax law penalizes these seniors if they want private sector jobs instead. So, the government will higher them at probably well below the prevailing wage to pay off property taxes.

She is quoted in the story as saying she has taken out a reverse mortgage. That leads to my question which is, how much is she getting from the bank every month. And what other sources of income does she have that they are leaving out of the story?

Westchester County, which has the nation's third-highest homeowner property taxes

They had the highest when I lived there, they are slipping and need to raise taxes.

They apparently want help that costs less than the illegals will work for.

The wage offered is an insult!

One of the real scandals here is that “property taxes” do not extend to the stocks, bonds, CDs, other forms of property that the wealthy own - but only to the class of property that your middle class citizen might own - a house to live in, a car to drive. Sock the wealthy with a similar millage on stocks, bonds, CDs, etc., one might see a whole new attitude on taxation.

He envisions retired doctors mentoring schoolchildren, retired accountants helping with the town's finances, retired lawyers offering their services for a discount.

I envision a local government that stands up to the teacher's unions, keeps local taxes to a level where people continue to want to live there, and exists within a budget. This article makes it sound like local government is doing these people a favor. Cut me a break. This nothing more than Hiliary's TV commercial where she is doling out Christmas presents to the peasants.

Not after 65.

Are property taxes in Westchester County based on the property’s value?

Greenburgh debates steep tax rate hike
By GERALD MCKINSTRY
THE JOURNAL NEWS

(Original publication: November 25, 2007)

GREENBURGH - Mildred White says the town supervisor’s budget proposal that calls for a 23 percent tax rate increase is “preposterous” and “unfair.”

http://tinyurl.com/yqeatd

Supervisor Paul Feiner last month pitched a nearly $61 million town budget that would raise taxes, on average, by $413, or 23 percent, to $2,205 for a homeowner with a property assessed at $15,000. Property owners would pay $147 per $1,000 of assessed value.

Soylent Green was the first movie I ever saw. I saw it at the Natick Drive In, which is no longer there. I was six at the time, and the film kept breaking apart more than once near the end of the movie, so we and just about everyone else there left without seeing the ending even though it was already obvious to everyone there that Soylent Green is people.

How about working for welfare? Now that gets the liberals upset. Working for taxes, no problem with the libs.

Nailed it. Well put. :-)
