It may be Providential that a book of history is soon to be released dealing extensively with certain shameful events of nearly four decades ago, just as others are now seeking to shamelessly and eagerly repeat those events.
Scott Swett and Tim Ziegler have co-authored To Set The Record Straight with the apt subtitle How Swift Boat Veterans, POWs and the New Media Defeated John Kerry. The book all but begins with details of the Winter Soldier Investigation (WSI) of 1971, an event I wrote about here at American Thinker last October. The WSI, organized by the Vietnam Veterans Againt the War (VVAW) was pure anti-American and anti-soldier leftist political theater.
Owing to leading Senators and the monolithic liberal big media of the time, WSI was the primary catalyst in legitimizing the longstanding and widely accepted defamation of 2.9 million Americans who served in Vietnam as baby killers, rapists, war criminals, losers, misfits, drug abusers and psychological "time bombs", to use Makubin T. Owens terminology.
Those broad sweeping charges against the Vietnam vets have survived as a part of our established historical narritive for millions and has been all but enshrined in the arts community, particularly film.
The left side of the web is busy spreading the word that next March the ideological descendent of the VVAW, the Iraq Veterans Against the War (IVAW) is planning another WSI dealing with Iraq and Afghanistan, thereby intending to smear another generation of over a million and a half Americans who have served to date in those wars and those who will serve.

Kerry needs to be hounded with the truth until he cries uncle—as does Jane Fonda and Ted Kennedy.
Thank you for serving in Vietnam—you did your 13 month tour. Kerry bugged out after 4 and one half months in country. He trained for one month, then in three and one half months he won three Purple Hearts, a Silver Star and a Bronze Star. And spent not one day in a hospital. Even Audie Murphy wasn’t that good. If you believe his story, I have oceanfront land in Arizona to sell you.
Someone else had to finish his tour.
He smeared every Vietnam veteran, but takes no responsiblility for causing our withdrawal from South Vietnam, which lead to its eventual fall and the murder of over three million men women and children in the Southeast Asia.
He smeared our troops in Iraq not once(terrorizing civilians), but twice( #2—they’re too stupid to avoid getting sent to Iraq). And these troops are the best troops we have ever fielded in 230 years.
I hope that John O’Neill lives long enough to see John Kerry thoroughly exposed and discredited.
The Swiftboat Vets did God’s work in 2004, and helped us to avoid a traitor becoming President.
He should be booed everywhere he goes.

This article may be too wordy for some, but it clearly shows that the book “To Set The Record Straight” is relevant to the ongoing leftist campaign to slander American Soldiers and the types of action that can and should be done to defend our Soldiers against this slander now, so we don’t wait another 36 years to set the record straight again.

The author of the essay is laying the groundwork for the second coming of the Winter Soldier Tribunal.
Its a warning that what happened before to our men and women in the military, is about to happen again.
