Mohammed, and its most common alternative spelling Muhammad, are now more popular babies' names in England and Wales than George, reflecting the diverse ethnic mix of the population.

The Office for National Statistics said there were 2,833 baby boys called Mohammed in 2006.

The name is 22nd in the list of most popular boys' names, moving up a place from last year.

Spelled Muhammad, it is the 44th most popular name and enters the top 50 for the first time along with Noah, Oscar, Lucas and Rhys.

There were 2,833 babies called Mohammed born in 2006 and 1,422 called Muhammad. The total exceeds the number of Georges (3,386) or Josephs (3,755).

This doesn’t show ethnic diversity, it shows that you have quite a few too many muslims in your country.

Same thing happening now in Thailand will occur in Britain, mark my word. It’s not reported in the press but beheadings occur daily, schools burned and random bombs in markets every single day. The short version is, muslim area concentrated with people of distinctive surnames, and no Thais want to hire them, because they have to pray 5x a day and do not accept anything Thai. So they are isolated and refuse to blend with society, and claim persecution. No Japanese factories anywhere in muslim countries either. It is difficult for Americans to grasp the situation but wait until Sunni and Shia groups within Michigan start arguing. People who grew up on Brady Bunch and Froot Loops will have no idea what happened.

This is my first post on FreeRepublic but I’ve followed along and looked on occasion for years.

Not surprising since the first born son of a Muslim family is always, with very rare exceptions, named Muhammad, and knowing how quickly they are taking over Great Britain and Europe. The Royal Family had better get used to waking up to prayer call every day at sunrise real soon, as it will no doubt resonate across the countryside drowning out the few remaining church bells in the dales.

You will see the other listings if you change the criteria to “by date.” Try it now and you will see you are a duplicate.

Also, just search on one word, like “Mohammed,” because various news agencies will use different titles for the same story.

Not necessarily. Muslims frequently name their kids Mohamed. Non-Muslims, other than George Foreman, tend to select among a much larger number of names. That, of course, spreads their name selection so that the Muslim name Mohamed can predominate even when their actual percentage of the population is small. I wonder if there is a Muslim female name that's showing a similar effect.

So a plurality of boys are now named after a 7th Century child-raping torture-murderer ...how is this a problem?

It’s a tragedy what is happening to this once and future kingdom, and indeed, all of Europe.
