Time magazine has terminated its relationships with its two conservative columnists, Charles Krauthammer and William Kristol. The New York Observer has the details:
The exact reasons for the departures of Mr. Krauthammer and Mr. Kristol, both high-profile backers of the Iraq war, are not entirely clear.
I was very happy to work with them, said Mr. Krauthammer on the phone from his Washington office. And I have a lot of things that occupy me.
Asked if he would have preferred to stay with the magazine, Mr. Krauthammer, a Pulitzer Prize winner who writes a regular column for The Washington Post, suggested there wasnt much of a choice. Its a hypothetical that didnt arise, he said.
The Time spokeswoman would not detail the reasons for ending the contract of Mr. Kristol, the editor of The Weekly Standard, but said that the decision was mutual. Mr. Kristol did not return a call for comment. [...]

Admit it, you love this guy - lol!
I usually go for the auto magazine that compares quarter million buck eurowonders.
I'm as likely to go out and buy one of those as I am apt to agree with anything in Time or Newsweek.
It looked for a time that Latin America finally got it and was going in the direction of free markets and democracy, but then along came Chavez and the Peronists. Now, Chavez is weakening and maybe it will start to swing again.
Meanwhile, Asia is fixing to leave Latin America in its dust.
I have no doubt they justified the decision by saying,
“Well, there aren’t any conservatives out there, anyway, so why do we need those guys? After all, we don’t know any conservatives.”
Let's start with a desire to stifle dissent.
He really wasn't a paper hanger, but he did bring "stability", of a sort. And that great fascist, Mussolini had the trains running on time in Italy. Or so they say.
Since Charles Krauthammer is an MD, the proper honorific to use with his name is abbreviated as Dr.. Mr. may be interpreted to be a "slam".
But the media always tells the sheeple that they are not Liberal nor are they biased!!!!!
Somehow, I think both of these 2 will be in better posistions shortly.
I think it is like staying with an abusive man-—You are spending your time and energy on simeone who doesn’t appreciate you. More so, you are blocking anyone from finding you who might appreciate you and love you like you deserve.
Fox Sunday could be interesting this weekend.
sure wasn’t a Merry Christmas for them, was it?
I can remember when having a subscription to Time magazine was uppermost in my Dad’s heart for a Father’s Day present. I got to read it cover to cover when he was done. Now, I wouldn’t buy it for any reason.
Time made a strategic marketing decision. They have picked their customer segment, and they are changing their product to the tastes of that segment.
Business-wise, good move I say.
Sad part for them:
1. Liberals don’t read much (just like they don’t donate much, etc.)
2. Conservatives won’t read Time.
Seriously, easier for them to cut the expense of columnists their subscribers hate and make the product more attracted to the most proximate market segment they have.
When will Glen Beck be leaving CNN is the question.
You know you’re gonna get flak because you didn’t include a /sarc tag don’t you?
A guy named Hernando de Soto, “The Mystery of Capital” has an excellent argument for why Lat. Am. and some of the African/ME countries remain “backward.” He argues it is not because of lack of wealth, but because of lack of legal instruments that allow people to capitalize their wealth (i.e., title deeds, property titles, etc.) In Egypt, for ex., it took 7 years and 156 separate steps to get legal title to property that a family CLEARLY owned for generations. Without legal title, he notes, you can’t borrow, and therefore can’t capitalize your equity for investment purposes.
So the rag gets even more left leaning. I haven’t bought it in years. I read it for nothing in doctors’ offices, dentists’ and libraries.
Brit Hume says the rumour is that National Review’s Ramesh Ponnuru will be hired on ro replace one of the purgees.
Hillary and Bill told them to fire those right wingers. Nuff said.
A paternalistic tradition rooted in both medieval Catholic thought and Bonapartism (Napoleon was a hero to many Latin American independence figures), to say nothing of the strong ethnic divisions in certain countries (Mexico, Guatemala, Peru in particular) are but a few factors that retarded the development of the nations to our south. Of course, I like to emphasize the lack of clearly defined and consistent property rights, and the embrace of import substitution (ie protectionist nationalism) along with corporatism over free market capitalism, but it would take a whole 'nother thread to address that issue.
LS, have you read any of David Rock's works on Argentina? How about Krauze's "Biography of Power" about Mexico?
I saw a fascinating study a few years ago of a large urban area in S.A., Buenos Aires IIRC. In the 70's some lefties organized squatters to seize this then open land, which the government let them stay on. Turned out there was no one owner and about half eventually got title and about half never have. The half that owned their land today have nice houses, many own businesses and they are better educated. The other half still live in shanties. They all started out the same, the only difference being whether or not they owned their lot.

Just more evidence that the liberal bias is alive and well, (or so they think) that they would dismiss the conservatives on staff.
I haven't read Time in more than a decade, nor watched any of the "mainstream media." Including the Thanksgiving Day parade.
