"...in todays world, in which women have fought for the right to equality, alimony seems more like a kid getting an allowance from daddy and I believe it should be abolished altogether except for extremely dire circumstances where a spouse is older, cannot work at all, and for only a short term period. No man or woman should be held to being a slave to an ex-spouse after a marriage ends. That said, if we are going to have alimony laws, I believe that men and women should be held to an equal standard under the law."

“Now, tell me who has the better standard of living?”
You do....you got rid of the ‘ex’....
I remember when I was fostering, we were paid about 11 per day to care for a child. That was bare minimum and I spent a lot OOP for the kids, but honestly, that was a given.
By my calculations, you live the lifestyle of someone making about $31K per year.
She’s got her $45K AND the deduction(s) AND the Child Support. So she’s living like she’s making $60K claiming single, and more with the deductions.
And you wonder why you’re divorced? She’s got a much better life without you. I know exactly of what I speak becasue I am in the same boat with you. The only difference is slide the salaries apart by about 20K and double the Child Support. After that little experience, that’s when deep down in my heart of hearts, I knew that O.J. Simpson did it.
My little green parrotlet is indeed a macaw in a tiny package - all attitude and no gratitude. She flies like a hummingbird.
The gray ‘Brie’ and the macaw ‘Nigel’ are opposites. Brie is quick-witted with a wonderful sense of humor and a keen observer of her environment, often commenting on anything going on inside the room or outside the window. Nigel the macaw, OTOH, only comments on things relative to himself (just like a man, huh ?)
One day I came into their room and put my hands on my hips. Nigel said ‘Uh Oh, Mom’s here’ and Brie said to him, ‘You are a bad rude brat bird, Nigel, go perch’.
How much does it cost (Food, clothing, shelter, meds, dental) etc to care for a child per month and per year?
My personal lesson in all of this is...
It becomes more and more easy to see why I am single and THANK GOD I walked away from the last GF...she’da take me for everything!
LOL! Touche!
Well stated, FRiend.
I have a BIL who was divorced from his 1st wife, married my SIL, 2 kids from 1st marriage age 8 and 5 girl and boy. He had joint custody; he & the X lived just a few streets apart so they shared physical custody alternating weeks. He had 3 kids with my SIL and is still married to her.
The kids were in private schools, they had the best of everything just as tho they were living full time with Dad, including their own bedrooms, and they went on every vacation and had every holiday with the BIL, and he paid for it all. Additionally, he paid the X child support AND alimony, probably over $6k a month, and NEVER complained even once.
I realize most people don’t have his income or assets, but the point is, he never shortchanged the kids or ever let them even think he resented supporting them.
Well, my first clue was the $30,000 Mustang she bought to park next to her $37,000 TrailBlazer. That and the fact that I end up buying most of my son's clothes makes me a tad suspicious.
You’re so lucky to have a Gray. I’ve got my hands full with my 3.
OK then, you have a right to be testy about this.
That is also the case with me. And I have never bad-mouthed the ex to my son.
Yes. Since men no longer can find jobs because of overt discrimination, and men are not promoted for working hard, and men can be fired any time because some woman accuses them falsely, and the false accuser is never prosecuted, yes.
Yes because the radical man-hating feminazis want alimony plus the house plus the kids and send the guy out on the street.
Yes.
I'm still luckier than some. At least I live on my own. I know men my age (44) who live with their parents because of their situation.
Hallelujah!!!
Granted, I’ve seen both sides.....
Sadly, both sides make it hard for the honest ones in the middle.
I don’t know - many are living way over their means with lots of debt. Maybe she bought the ‘stang to save it for your son’s first car - think how the girls will go gaga over that :)
But seriously - you’re talking to someone who gets $100 a month for child support, and know that I spend over $1800 a month on expenses for the kid. I’ve never complained, even when he bought a diesel F350 dually that had to easily cost $45K, knowing he could only afford it because he wasn’t paying it to the kid. And while I fork out for college, he declines to do more than $100 a month. Sheesh, groceries alone for the kid cost probably $250 a month.
But life goes on, my kid knows what a schmuck he is without my having to say a single thing, and I have a great kid regardless.
*giggle*
Sorry, heh, heh, heh.
