Washington, D.C.Presidential candidate Congressman Duncan Hunter returned to Washington this morning to immediately begin his efforts to overturn provisions contained in a Democratic spending bill that eliminates current legal requirements for double-layered border fencing. Congress last year passed legislation authored by Hunter, the Secure Fence Act, mandating double-layered fencing and related infrastructure at strategic entry points along the Southwest border.
Now is the time when those who take the threat to our nations borders seriously stand up and be counted, said Hunter. Last year, Congress successfully passed legislation that mandated a double fence requirement based on the success of the border fence weve built in San Diego. The Democrat majority in this Congress has taken it upon themselves to overturn federal law to pursue a policy that does nothing but harm our border enforcement capabilities. This is not leadership, it is irresponsibility.
Border enforcement is too serious of an issue to pursue only when politically convenient at election time. If Congress is to reverse its border stance after just one year, what message does that send to illegal immigrants and drug smugglers who are watching to see how serious we are about protecting Americas borders? I believe we must uphold our nations immigration laws, support our agents serving on the border and protect our border communities and I am going to make every effort to overturn the damage this Democrat leadership has caused.
H.R. 2764, a bill that provides funding for several federal departments and agencies, was brought to the House floor and passed late last evening by the Democratic leadership. Not only does the bill contain provisions removing all specific locations as outlined by the Secure Fence Act, it also removes all requirements to construct any fencing or physical barriers along the border. This action basically repeals the Secure Fence Act and undermines past efforts to secure our nations border.
H.R. 2764 has been referred to the Senate for consideration and then will be returning to the House with any changes in the form of a conference report. Congressman Hunter is working with his colleagues in both the House and Senate to ensure that these dangerous provisions do not remain in the final version of the funding bill.
Its too bad we only have two branches of one political party governing in DC today.
The few real patriots and honest people serving there have to fight the democrat branch in congress and the republican branch in the White House.
It is time the two branches merged and make way for a new party for the patriotic working class.
There is legitimate uses for eminent domain. The fence is one of them. Giving the property to a developer to increase city tax revenue is not one of them.
Somehow the govment got it backwards.
And if we are hit by the terrorists again and they came in from the southern border illegally will those who forced this reduction take responsibility?
Legitimate or not, people are opposed to it.

Hunter’s people (or person) should be calling all of the talking-heads. His face should be plastered on TV tonight adressing this
That's PROFOUND!!! (you should make it your tagline!)
The Fence and Iraq are alike, they both will work and the democrats can’t package the lie good enough to sell to the public.
No, that is toro mierda.
Costs too much? Please. We spend more to educate, medicate, incarcerate and feed illegal aliens every month than a double fence from Brownsville to San Diego will cost. It will pay for itself immediately in reduced spending on illegals.
"People don't want to give up their property to build it."
Non-issue. 2/3 of the border already has a 60 foot easement owned by the federal govt, taken by Teddy Roosevelt under eminent domain. The only part under contention is some of the border along the Rio Grande River, and that too can be taken by immanent domain. If a person's house can be taken because a developer wants to build a condo, the federal govt can certainly take a strip of border for national security purposes.

Why should we care if illegal alien criminal invaders are opposed to it?
A nation has a right to protect itself from invasion.

Well we know what Hunter and Tancredo have to say. Now lets hear what the other candidates have to say if they’ve got what it takes.
NO ONE will consider him for VP. Not the short list, not even the long list. Great man, great policies, but pragmatically speaking, NO WAY, NO HOW.
Just like they tried to package the amnesty b.s. as a great thing for all this is a lemon in the making too.

Omnibus Bill Includes Border Fence-Gutting Amendment (This is outrageous!!!)
” This fence isnt going to be built. Its all political posturing. It costs too much, and people don’t want to give up their property to build it. “
Bull. It’s a pittance next to the cost of subsidizing illegals in the form of health care, lost jobs, losses due to drime, and increased welfare for the extended families of illegal aliens. Not to mention the cost of cleaning up after a terrorist attack. Where the hell is your head, man?
BUILD THE FENCE. BUILD IT WHOLE. BUILD IT NOW.
I thought Sen.hutchison a pubie is the one trying to block the fence.
