How do you think the Russians, Chinese, et. al. are going to feel about that?

Perhaps we should just surrender to communism/socialism now since our laws and form of government are so weak and unappealing?

So he used a quote, it’s not his own words. And he said he wasn’t sure if it applied or not in this case.

In my opinion, he was not saying Huckabee was a fascist. He was using a well-turned phrase about another circumstance to enforce HIS opinion that it was wrong for a candidate to wrap themselves in the flag and cross as if they were the only christian or patriot.

After all, Huckabee isn’t a fascist, he’s a socialist...

But wait. Would it be wrong to call Huckabee a smoking nazi? How about a fast food nazi? Doesn’t Huckabee want government to control my choices for me, to make us all into a more perfect race of humans?

Hmm..... I don’t agree with Ron Paul on the war or 9/11 or some other things, but hmmmm.....

And when stupidity comes, it’ll be wrapped in a car with a Ron Paul for President bumper sticker on it.

That is the sticky wicket here. And at the moment I really don’t have an answer or solution.

His fundraisng and support is impressive, that being said I could never vote for him though

What surprises me is that none of the other candidates' supporters have managed to do even a fraction of what RP's supporters have done for him.

In truth, RP's advantages in this season would pale before what Bush was mustering as he glided to the nomination in 2000. Bush had the entire party establishment locked up, a huge fundraising steamroller, etc. No candidate has done that this year. What we see instead is all of the candidates who were considered frontrunners have deflated to at least some extent and Huckabee, playing the nice guy and with those cross-shaped bookcases in the background, has managed to grab Iowa's attention for the moment. And, with WND pushing for him, his numbers have come up elsewhere. But even he lacks the volunteers and his fundraising is really poor.

RP's support and fundraising is quite notable for a relatively unknown congressman. What's more striking about it is how it shows up the other candidates at this point. The GOP voters seem a little surly this year. Neither Giuiliani's appeals to the liberal Republicans or even Mitt's checkbook seems to compare. I still think Fred could have a real surge though. And I think Iowa might dump Huck in the end. They're so fickle.

Have you ever read Paul's "Statement of Faith" before? He freely professes his love for Christ and his faith.

He reiterated again last week when he spoke so strongly against rejecting Romney on the basis of his religion.

I think that is a key contextual point in this. He does follow a set of principles pretty rigidly.

I feel really dumb about this, but everyone liked that quote so much, I have to know....

I understand the “asking for money” part. But what is the reference to “towing a blimp” about?

I never tried.

Apt pronouncement and description when it comes to comprehending and discussing the issues. If you haven't taken time to investigate who these "fascists" are that support Ron Paul, and have no idea what kind of "fascism" they hold dear, you really have no business declaring non-support for the guy. Better to resign yourself to the true silliness of argument by innuendo.

Sure. Renounce them then take their cash. Nice guy. A fraud, but still a nice guy. Really someone I'd want to vote for.

It seems to me his remark today that spurred this brouhaha (well, here and nowhere else in creation) was in fact a pretty disparaging remark about fascism and the associated racist regimes of Europe like the Nazis and such.

The Paul campaign has decided not to spend all their time sifting their donation list for undesirables. Instead, he uses the money for his small-governent and liberty message.

So Ron Paul is just another Christian-hating liberal on the lines of Rosie “Christians are just as dangerous as Moslems” O’Donnell. I am still amazed so many of my fellow Catholic conservatives love this jerk.

When did he make that promise? He ran for President as a third-party candidate once before, in 1988, as a Libertarian, and garnered over 414,000 votes, despite being kept off the ballot in some states. Other third-party candidates have done less well on a repeat performance (Ross Perot in 1996 compared to 1992, for example), but Paul would be getting votes from kids who weren’t even born in 1988.

Considering you would be introducing quite a few limitations on that nation they wouldn't want, even they wouldn't agree to it. But hey as I said do what you want. You seriously won't get more than 5% of the general public to agree with you. The issue falls apart at the simple issues just think about what happens when you got to the difficult ones.

Why would fascists support someone who believes in liberty and freedom?

I asked the same question in so many words many posts ago, and have now been branded as one who obfuscates.

But what is the reference to “towing a blimp” about?

RP's supporters raised over a quarter million extra on their own, formed a company to thwart McCain-Feingold finance laws, and flew a Ron Paul blimp starting last Friday (I think). It was to fly over Boston for the Teaparty fundraiser but only made it to the Carolinas. It's supposed to go carpet-bomb NH prior to their primary. Well, something like that...

Isn't grammar fun!Read, if you haven't already done so, Eats, Shoots, and Leaves. The author writes passionately and entertainingly about the misuse of apostrophe's and, commas.

“STEVE DOOCY: Mike Huckabee has started running an ad in Iowa, where you’re at right now, also in New Hampshire and South Carolina, and in the back, it’s a windowpane but it also looks a lot like a cross. And, and, we had a guest a little while ago who said it was inappropriate to be using religion for political purposes. Congressman, I’m just curious what you think?

RON PAUL: Well, I haven’t thought about it completely, but you know, it reminds me of what Sinclair, uh, Lewis once said, he said ‘when Fascism comes to this country, it will be wrapped in the flag, carrying a cross.’ I don’t know whether that’s a fair assessment or not, but you wonder about using a cross like he is the only Christian, or implying that subtly. So, uh, I don’t think I would ever use anything like that.”

Absolutely bad taste in a reply, but what was Doocy asking the question for in the first place? If it’s really just a non-political Christmas message (which was my impression) there would seem to be no point in asking unless he’s trying to “create” a story, which he did.

Over the decades fascism got overused as an epithet until it now seems to mean "my political opponents." This de facto redefinition forces me to revert to a classical definition of fascism as "20th century Italian nostalgia for a return their Roman Empire."

At a mere 200+ years of age America just entered its golden era. Shills touting alleged American fascism need to wait about two millennia before America nostalgically looks back on its glory days.
