THEY SAY YOU can't fight City Hall, but last Friday Joey Vento stood tall (at 5-foot-5) in the center ring of the circus to answer a discrimination complaint filed against him by the Philadelphia Commission on Human Relations. Vento's been a handy punching bag for the press. Local editorial writers and columnists have vilified him as a racist, a nativist, a know-nothing, a do-badder, because of his (now world-famous) 4-by-9-inch sign at the window of his Geno's Steaks that reads: "This is America. When Ordering, Please Speak English." Some believe that is hate speech.
For some reason (hate, perhaps?) the 6 1/2 -hour hearing was conducted entirely in English, a clear slap in the face to the Hispanic, Asian, Pacific Islander and Esperanto communities.

“Being a nativist is wrong. Being one of the indigenous population is good.”
Since liberals dislike being a nativist, then they should have no problem with corporations shipping jobs elsewhere, right? I mean, what makes an American any better than anyone else?
One of the many conflicting views Democrats take that no one bothers to point out.
I’ll bet you he’s an old-school Democrat too. That’s what is so wrong with the left turn the so-called liberals have taken. What happened to Genos’ rights?? Hauling him before a “human rights” commission? It sounds so.. soviet.
Maybe he should run for public office. He knows how to run a business after all, and I’d vote for him.
I wonder if he speaks his native language, likely Italian. If so he should refuse to speak English at the hearing.
The part of Geno’s sign that they really object to is the very first part: “This is America...”
Wouldn't be relevant, dontcha know. The complaint comes from Geno's sign.
The thing to do, then, is hire an attorney who refuses to speak to the commission except in ASL -- American Sign Language.
Generally speaking, it is only hispanics who complain about anything having to do with the English language. It is (again, generally speaking) only hispanics who toss a fit about not being given options in a language other than English. Whenever I call a company or a service and I get a recording, the only two options given are (Press 1 for English) and (whatever gibberish Spanish, 2 for espanol); there is no 3 for German, no 4 for French, no 5 for Cantonese, etc. You get the picture.
The greatest insult in American history is a horde of hispanic invaders refusing to learn our national language (which, even though the PC politicians won’t admit it, is English) and going one step further: demanding WE learn THEIR language.
I’ve had it with them. Come to America legally (like my mother did), and you will be welcomed with open arms. Come here illegally, and on top of that insult us, and you will get short shrift, and likely get your sorry asses kicked back to whatever hell home you came from.
There was a woman who spoke at the hearing against Joey.
Not sure she is much of a woman....
Camille Charles, a sociology professor at the University of Pennsylvania, testified that Vento’s signs harken back to the “Whites only” postings of the Jim Crow era.
“The signs give a feeling of being unwelcome and being excluded,” Charles said.
I would like her to know that I dont welcome her and would like to exclude her from thinking. Shes an idiot.
Personally I think there is more to it than just the sign.
Joey is more than likely being targeted for his outspoken support of Officer Daniel Faulkner:

Go Joey....one of Phillys best.
There isnt much good about Philly these days.
Anything that would serve to make this bunch look like fools suits me.
Your name would be pronounced "Moik" in Philly!
You know, this is nothing more than something driven by hatred and guilt of white people.
The people who are trashing the guy are the same sort of people who came up with the concept of the “ugly American.” You know, the American tourist who expects the rest of the world to speak English! They tut-tut over how the visitor should try to speak the language of the location. After all, “when in Rome...”
But when a business owner simply asks that people order in the defacto language of this country (although that’s changing, thanks to the open borders), these very same people go apoplectic, screaming about how expecting people living in an English speaking nation to speak English is discrimination, and yes, even RACIST!
I think that Geno’s needs to accept orders in every language. You never know when someone from Paupau New Guinea might feel a hankerin for a philly steak and cheese sandwich, and have to order it in Motu. And then there’s a chance that someone who’s only fluent in ancient Samarian might want to place an order... Or Mandarin Chinese.
Of course, when someone orders something in a foreign language, I think that Genos should just give the customer whatever the cook feels like giving him, pointing to the sign stating “No Refunds!”

We speak Fluffyan here!!!
As in, “ I need some warter to wash down my cheeztake”.
Natives never order whiz, btw.
A brother of the Canadian Human Rights Commission -- which has charged Mark Steyn with "hate speech".
And both are cousins of the Peoples' Courts in the Stalinist USSR -- who charged people with "thought crimes".
Kangaroo courts like this simply do not belong in free countries like the United States of America (or Canada).

Follow the money....
I've always hated this phrase, especially since the city of Rome now allows non-citizens to vote in local elections.
Hopefully when this is over he’ll sue the city.
How about making all legal statements to the court as a Tuvan throat singer?
It could prove to be the most downloaded Youtube clip ever.
Oh please, give philly’s elected thieves a break.
They are trying to do deal with the most important issues, after all they managed to address the trans fat horrific issue and now they’ve turned to the nexy horror Geno’s sign. After Geno’s sign they will tackle the obsene insult of yawning in public and then farting in a room full of people and then waving in an unusal way to be follow by ——
oh you get the idea. Maybe wen there is a record of 10,000 shooting deaths they’ll thing about addressing that minor problem.
This is called the Commission on Human Relations... Now, isn’t it poor human relations to enter a place that prefers English and speak another language (after they’ve even asked with a “PLEASE”)?
Anyone ordering in a language other than English must surely be brought before the Commission to answer for their crime against good Human Relations!
