Not to get all technical with Color Temps and degrees Kelvin but as any Photographer who has ever taken a picture indoors lit by incandescents (and no flash) with 'Daylight film' know - THEY have the "yellowish tint", not fluorescents. The typical fluorescents are 'blue' balanced. (again it gets into that Kelvin degree thingy). However, fluorescents now come in different 'color temps' balanced for different applications. Some come very close to actual Daylight temps (in Kelvins). And truth be told, if you put a fluorescent in your closet you'll never again grab that dark blue suit or dress when you wanted the black one (or vise versa).
A version of the bill the House passed last summer would have exempted bulbs with odd shapes, such as globular lights on make-up mirrors... The new measure largely closes such loopholes by exempting, for example, only larger globular bulbs, which don't fit in most lamps.
Okay what the 'heck' are they saying? Will Globular 'Designer' bulbs will be available or NOT? It doesn't make sense to me. Big ones okay, mid size and 'small ones' not okay??? And if so, why are only Big Ones okay???
The thing is, all our Bath Fixtures and Dining Room Ceiling Fixture take the mid-size Globular Bulbs. Our Living room Designer Floor Lamp takes (4) of the LARGE Globular bulbs.
And 'they' (Congress and Dubya) can go to hell if they think I'm going to spend all that money to replace all our fixtures for kicks. Unless of course I am fully compensated financially by the gubmint for time, material and labor. If not, this may lead me to starting a revolution :-)

This business about mercury might be part of the problem. Getting a new factory in USA past the EPA and all its commie-greenie allies might be prohibitively expensive. The ChiComs don't give a crap about pollution.

I’d like the option to turn DOWN the intensity of the flourescent.
I had a couple of circular ones for living room table lamps. They lasted years. I bought them around 1980 and they were still working when I sold them with a property sale in 1998.
I replaced nearly all of my inside lights with them over the last 4 years. I had one quit just a short time after I bought it. A couple that were the first replacements — one in the computer room and another in the living room — are used nearly every evening. I’ve never had a problem with them.
They do cut down a little amount on the electric bill and on the heat build-up during the summer.
And that’s what I mean!
I’m looking at the flourescents over my desk right now, and I can look at them without huring my eyes. When I look at an incandescent it leaves a green spot behind, so it looks to me like the incandescents have a higher intensity per unit ares, but the fluorescents have a lot greater area so they put out more lumens per watt.
Which brings to mind - what lights our monitors? Will that someday be altered by government force?

My advice to everyone - don’t stock up on light bulbs. Compact fluorescent bulbs design improves all the time, and there are new technologies that might overtake it entirely. A bulb you buy a year from now might be way ahead of what you buy now. So keep a minimum emergency reserve, then buy to refresh the reserve.
But I’m against government requiring people to stop making bulbs. Freedom to choose, that’s what America is about. S@#$& government control freaks.
