This was also one of my favorite songs...I could feel the lonliness of this young man- out in the world- but missing home! His early albums were the ones that ‘Captured’ me right from the start.

But anything and everything he did was wonderful to me!

I admired, too, that he followed his heart and did the music that he wanted to do- I liked that he explored new avenues down through his long musical adventure!

And I was with him all the way-and marveling at all he did.

Oh!
I will miss him!

Yes! “Twin Sons of Different Mothers”
And he did another with Weisberg years later titled
“No Resemblance Whatsoever”

I liked that Dan could be so diverse in his music but still remained so good in whatever he chose to do!

Oh yes!

I was hooked on Jackson Browne’s early music! Those songs you listed are among my favorites and also ‘To a Dancer’

I found a bunch of his early vids on Youtube recently!

In fact I posted some on my blog! (juniesplace.blogspot.com/)

...Jackson and Dan came into my life at about the same time and they have both been a constant with me all through the years!

Until that time- early 70s- I had paid little attention to current music trends. I was raising a young family and with my husband who only liked country... I didn’t explore much, on my own-in music.

But finally (through my teenage son)I was introduced to Dan’s music and Jackson’s!)
The world of this beautiful soft rock (especially Dan’s music) was a new and wonderful experience for me! And it has been a part of my life ever since!

He wrote some good stuff, but he was a major factor in the pussification of American males.<<<<

...I for one would love to see more males with the sensitivity Dan projected in his lyrics!

...And it would be great to see more men who LOOKED as good as he did too!

Prayers for him and his family. Loved “Auld Lang Syne”. Something like that happened to me once way back when...

The Power of Gold and Language of Love would be my favorites. Didn't really get into the softer stuff but his poetry was truly amazing.

I would have to nominate Don McLean for an honorable mention as a poet.

Didn't Warren Zevon's cancer start as prostate?

Leader of the Band was one of my favorites as well. A very touching tribute to his Father.

I really liked your music, Dan. So sad to see you go.

Good lord, lighten up! I simply quoted another post-er, for one thing, and second, I’m not aware that there is any vulgarity in that statement. Would wussification be more like it?

Sorry to hear this. His music was on the radio all the time when I was in college. I liked it although he took some criticism at the time for being too syrupy.

I liked that his song “Run for the Roses” had the word “withers” in it. I think very few songs that have been played on top 40 radio have mentioned withers.

Not sure about Warren... about how his illness started...but that too was so sad to lose such a unique talent as he was!

And Warren completeing that final album-’The Wind,’ in the final months of his life, to me was truly amazing and admirable!

If you mean about twenty nanoseconds, then I agree with you.

Well, I'd say that's a "long" while! : )

Yea... that’s a great song too...

What a sad thing to hear today. I’ve always been a huge fan. Had the pleasure to hear him live, twice.... and, his voice was just as perfect in person. I especially love that much of his music is VERY easy to play on piano. Thanks for that, Dan!

Innocent Age was one of my favorite albums during my one of my favorite times in life.. in college. Most every song is excellent. Besides the obvious ones mentioned earlier, I also really loved “The Reach”, and “Only the Heart May Know”.

If I HAD to pick a favorite song though... It would have to be the simple, catchy tune with the following lyrics:

OLD TENNESSEE

End of october
The sleepy brown woods seem to
Nod down their heads to the winter.
Yellows and grays
Paint the sad skies today
And I wonder when
Youre coming home.

Woke up one morning
The wind through the window
Reminded me winter
Was just round the bend.
Somehow I just didnt
See it was coming
It took me by surprise again.

And I hear youre in san francisco
Living with your sister whos a mother to be.
And her husbands way down in georgia
And Im still in old tennessee...
Wishing youd come home to me.

Life here is easy
Im sure you recall
How its so warm and breezy
In the summer and the fall.
But winters upon me
And Ive got no heat here
And I miss your fire so sweet, dear
I miss your fire so sweet.

And I hear youre in san francisco
Living with your sister whos a mother to be.
And her husbands way down in georgia
And Im still in old tennessee...
Wishing youd come home to me.

End of october
The sleepy brown woods seem to
Nod down their heads to the winter.
Yellows and gray
Paint the sad skies today
And I wonder when
Youre coming home
I wonder when youre coming home.

“The Reach and Part of the Plan” are 2 of my all time faves. I also LOVE the love he showed for his dad in “Leader of the Band”.
Whenever he played in MA, I went to his concerts. I guess I was kind of a groupie!!!
This is such a loss.

We named our youngest son Dan after DF 9 years ago. My wife and I used to love to go see him when we could.

I think the best stuff came from Netherlands and Captured Angel. One song that comes to mind is Stars- Allison Krauss even covered it a few years back, and it is so beautiful. To the Morning is another favorite.

We bought his Christmas Album a few years back, and though it’s my least favorite, it was interesting reading his notes, and on one song he mentioned what a perfect song it was about `the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ’

I was a bit blown away by that, of course in a good way.
Shawn Colvin (I LOVE her voice) did a `Holiday’ album but remained secular in her version of Silent Night- not a mention of Christ, which was disappointing.

I was so glad to know that Dan had God with him during his trials.

RIP Dan.

Very sad indeed. I saw him in concert 3 times. Each show was very different. One was a complete band with chorus and light show at Boston Garden, another was on the Boston Common and the third was an all acoustic show with him and just two other musicians.

A very talented man. He'll be missed.

This is a beautiful ‘Dan’ song. I have always loved this one, although I could never pick one favorite- or even a dozen! The man was simply amazing in everything he did!

I am so heartbroken with this....
