A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day......Dec 17 & 18th -07....Military Tribute

A Few of FR's Finest November 11, 2001

So many people have written me since my original Veteran's Day Tribute, asking how they, or a loved one, could be included in that tribute. Since I could no longer add the photos to the body of the thread, I have been including them here as I receive enough to make another collage.
I think there's never been a better nor more appropriate time to keep the faces of our own Veterans and Active Military in front of FReepers--every day! That's why I wanted to do yet another Daily Thread .....ABOUT FReepers .....and FOR FReepers. But not only about our Military FReepers; for all FReepers! Wouldn't it be nice to get to know a few of the other FReepers as well? That's why we've created a place for just that. This is a friendly room in JimRob's house where FReeper FRiends can gather every day and just say hello if that's all they want to do.
We have featured different FReepers, with a little background information on who they are and what makes them who they are, along with a few photos you might not have seen on other threads; sometimes others write an essay for us to post as the feature for the day; sometimes our presentation is a human interest story found elsewhere that you might not have read; sometimes special holiday threads; but whatever the topic of the day, it is always with FR's Finest in mind and that is YOU!
Every Monday we post the photos of FR's Military Personnel that I have collected and put into groups; these will be available to view through a link the remainder of the week - every day just a click away. :)   If you would like to add a photo of yourself or a loved one in the military, past or present, please let me know; I will hold it until I have enough for a new group.
Thank you, and please have fun with us...every day!

Frogs And More Frogs

READ: Psalm 139:1-12

O Lord, You have searched me and known me. —Psalm 139:1

Mary received a ceramic frog for her birthday from a co-worker, and she displayed it on her desk for all to see. Some of her fellow employees began to think she must like frogs, so they started to give her frog items for Christmas, birthdays, and special celebrations. Her office soon became filled with “things frog”—pens, candles, stickie notes, posters, coffee cups.

After Mary left the company, a friend asked her what she did with the frogs. She replied, “Well, I don’t really like frogs, so I gave them all away.”

Others mean well, yet don’t always know us well. They’ll never know us as God does. We are an open book to Him—there is nothing about us that is hidden from Him. Psalm 139 tells us:

• God knows everything we do (v.2). He knows all the activities of our day and every detail of our schedule.

• God knows everything we think (v.2)—the good and the bad, the wholesome, and the impure.

• God knows everywhere we go—“You comprehend my path . . . and are acquainted with all my ways” (v.3).

• God knows everything we say (v.4).

He knows us better than we know ourselves. Isn’t it a comfort to be known so intimately by our Lord—even with all our flaws—and yet be loved so completely!

The blood of atonement fulfills all the law!
Amazement succumbs to the message of grace:
Though God knows our thoughts, every sin, every flaw,
His love bids us hide in His holy embrace.  —Mollon

You’re not just a number computers can trace; Christ knows your need, your name, and your face.

To: The Mayor; All

Good Morning, Mayor..Just found this on another thread.

Christmas Wish

“There’s no such thing as Santa,” jeered the group of older boys
“There isn’t any reindeer, any elves or magic toys.”
“Oh yes there is.” I cried aloud, my little fists curled tight,
“He’s on his way with loaded sleigh to visit us tonight.”

“I made the most imprtant wish a boy could ever make
and I’ve been good for oh so long, been good for goodness sake.”
And though the tears burned in my eyes, I swore I wouldn’t cry,
I didn’t want to be a man, but promised dad I’d try.

That night was spent, just mom and me, like many nights before;
the house was never quite the same since dad went off to war.
We had our Chistmas dinner and we sang O Holy Night,
We read about that meany Grinch and cheered when he did right.

But sadness showed within Mom’s eyes as she stood by my bed,
and tucked the covers to my chin and kissed me on the head.
“Don’t worry mom,” I whispered “Things are gonna be all right.”
“We’re sure to get our Christmas Wish when Santa comes tonight.”

I tried my best to stay awake and listen to the roof,
for telltale ring of jingle bells or clop of reindeer hoof.
But snug and warm it wasn’t long before I gave a yawn,
And would have gone to sleep but for the noise out on the lawn.

Then came the clump of heavy boots across the hardwood floor,
the tread somehow familiar like I’d heard it once before.
As quiet as a mouse I crept, my eyes flew wide to see
the silhouette that stood alone before the Christmas tree.

His frame was lean and fit, he had no belly big and round,
the heavy sack a duffle that he placed upon the ground.
He didn’t wear a stitch of red, the uniform was green,
And not a single jingle bell, just medals could be seen.

And then the strongest arms on earth wrapped ‘round and held me tight,
and I knew then that Santa really rode on Christmas night,
and Christmas Wishes did come true, just like I knew they had,
For Santa came on Christmasn night and brought me home my dad.

I'm fine as far as my health goes.

But I'm gonna have not so good of a Christmas this year. Back in November. a week before Thanksgiving, my father was rushed into the ER with breathing difficulties.

The hospital kept him a few days and did some tests on him.

The day before Thanksgiving Day, my mom and my sister brought him back home, but mom had to turn right around and call 911 to send him back to the hospital because as she was feeding him dinner, he collapsed.

he stayed in the hospital a week. his doctor sent him to rehab in a nursing home and placed him on phase one hospice.

for a while it looked like he was getting well enough to go home with mom. but yesterday he started vomiting and complaining of stomach discomfort.

the doctors say all we can do for him right now is to make him as comfortable as possible.

It doen't look good for him at all.

The hospital tried to do an MRI to see if he had a stroke, but with him shaking so badly, they couldn't keep him still enough to get a good image.

I ask for a lot of prayers for my dad that he does not suffer or be in discomfort.

also pray for strenght for my mother.

As far as I know, everyone listens to Billy Gilman and I'm the last to know about his talent.

If you haven't seen him as a young boy singing, "Oh, Holy Night," put on a sweater because you're going to get the chills.
