Smithfield A judge has told a Johnston County farmer that he cannot open his farm to Muslim families planning to slaughter lambs as part of an annual religious celebration.
The judge issued a 10-day injunction Friday, meaning that about 250 Muslim families in Wake County will have to make other arrangements for slaughtering lambs they bought in advance of the three-day Festival of the Sacrifice, which begins on Wednesday.
Kenneth and Eddie Rowe have tangled before with the state over the mass slaughter of lambs on their 300-acre farm. They said they have been conducting the slaughtering in their 80x100 barn for the past six years.
In 2005, the Rowes preserved their right to carry on the tradition. The state Department of Agriculture fined them $10,000 for the practice the same year, but the Rowes have not yet paid it.

I think the original purpose of animal sacrifice was analogous to modern tithes. In ancient times animals represented wealth. To sacrifice an animal was to sacrifice a part of your wealth as an act of devotion and gratitude. Modern believers just hand over some money to the church.
So, you don’t believe in public sanitation? Fine. Please don’t live anywhere near me. Thank you.

You missed the relevent sentance in my post:
“It is not the job of my government to intervene in the choices adults make THAT DON’T EFFECT OTHERS not involved in the action.”
This event takes place on a farm, not in the city.
I’m not clear from the article what the health issues might be. Is there an issue involving animal blood or tissues getting into a water source? Something else perhaps? Do you know? If there are no health issues, and no honest environmental ones, I don’t care. But I’m not just quick with a knee jerk reaction that because the gubment said it, it’s bad.
Now, I’m done discussing it because I can’t imagine I have anything else to say about it.

I don’t believe there are health issues, obviously the government disagrees.
And thanks for discussing it with me!
“Get a bunch of chickens and take them into your yard, invite your friends over to CELEBRATE killing them. Do some dancing and yodeling while youre at it.”
Woa. My grandparents did just that here in Tennessee. Every Thanksgiving they’d have what they called “hog killin’ time, and it was a big event. I actually was at these a few times. Several families would get together and kill hogs for the smokehouse. After torturing the hog, they’d actually celebrate it by rending lard from the fat, and making cracklins to enhance the cornbread.
They’d play fiddles and banjos, and some of the “heathen” types would sneak off to the barn and drink moonshine. They’d also do this during the tobacco harvest. Entire families would pick the crop and help get it in the barns.
Now I realize the intake of lard or cigarettes are not socially acceptable these days, but there are still some folks up in this area that still do this.
>>>>Every Thanksgiving theyd have what they called hog killin time...
You mean those hogs didn’t come from Krogers???
::gasps!::
:)
>>>but there are still some folks up in this area that still do this.
And they still should. People growing up are in deep trouble if they can only produce food from a box or styrofoam container.
>>>Im not clear from the article what the health issues might be.
Health issues are a buzzword for the USDA and EPA to justify depopulation. There is no simple sentence I can post to show that. Their justification is in cases and cases of documents that cost us about $10,000 in FOIA fees and they still have more.
I am able to post an example of the USDA threatening us though.

Personally I think it’s a good thing that there are those on both edges of the argument, since it makes everyone think about their position. I have one son who is a dyed in the wool conservative, one who is a Ron Paul Libertarian, and one who is more in the mushy middle (I think—he doesn’t like disagreement as much as the other two, so we don’t talk politics as much). All 3 from the same household. You can imagine our home was a pretty noisy place!

Oh gosh, you’re gonna make me read all of that! Well, maybe when school gets out for the holidays.... *sigh*

That is one of the problems. Everything being done is hidden in cases of information. Like I said, there is no quick info/link.
That is one of the ways they get away with everything. No one has the time to read.
Remember the PAWs threads we were on months (a year?) ago? All my links were monsters of info also. Guess what. It is the same group.
Yeah, I remember that. And, btw, there is a big push here in S. FL to make dog breeding almost illegal. Amazing how quickly PETA has managed to sweep across the country with these laws.

PAWs and NAIS are sister legislature and all falls under USDA.
AND both will make us stakeholders to the animals vs owners.
We did the same, but I don’t remember the torture part. We just put the barrel of a .22 rifle to the brain area of the head and squeezed the trigger. Worked every time and it was instantaneous.
Whoa!
Was it part of your ‘religion’? Did you seek to have it protected as such? Did anyone go to court to change laws to allow it? Was it part of an overall mindset of brutality and death?
Oh- and was your ‘religion’ terrorizing the world? I think not. Why would you compare your relatives to a totally foreign mindset and people whose goals go far beyond a lamb barbecue?
Look, if we want to go BACK FAR ENOUGH we can find that all humans did barbaric things. It’s just that most have that in their PAST, not their present. Not many modern-day Mexicans are tossing disemboweled people down pyramids either.
I’m at the point where- if it has to do with Islam or Muslims- I just say NO. No to whatever they want to do. I have a problem with Islam being present in our country at all!
At NO time, in NO way do I want any of their ‘traditions’ bringing us one step closer to the 12th century- which is where they want this country to be. Thwarting Islam any way I can is a way of life for me. I only have one word for any Muslim- NO.
I am anti terrorist as it comes,CBS, and think the Muslim religion is dangerous and backward.
However, I have a problem with a judge being able to stop a landowner from killing an animal on his property. This time it happens to be Muslims living in the U.S.
Next time it could be me, when I need to kill a rabid raccoon attacking my dog, or I want to harvest a deer or lamb to eat.
Like I said in my first post, if it was because of a legitimate public health threat, I can see it.
