Detroit and the DIA reopening are given prominent billing, both in images and display.

Some of the other things mentioned, the new MGM Grand Hotel and Motor City Casino, the historic Book Cadillac Hotel being transformed into the Westin.

WTH??? Almost everyone I know only goes downtown if they have to or their boss is twisting their arm off, but Detroit beats NYC? How much did Kwame Kilpatrick have to pay to get this writeup I wonder?

Why do people go to Detroit? To look at muzzies on US soil?

The only reason to travel to Detroit is to get to the airport.

I’ve always said the people from South Philly go to Detroit for a vacation.

My first trip to downtown Detroit (from Ann Arbor) was in 1958 with my boss. He had never been there either but he homed in on Cadillac Square and the Variety Burlesque like a native. We made the last show at midnight. I looked back a couple of rows, and there sat a couple of my best friends from Arkansas. We all agreed not to tell anyone how and where we met. Travel destination indeed.

“Detroit makes the list of top spots for travel destinations in 2008.”

Well, maybe for Northwest Airline passengers that have to hub through
Detroit.

And fugitive drug dealers exiled from Miami and Southern California
and fleeing law enforcement until “things cool off” back home.

Oh yeah, and Islamic terrorist operative flying in to set up shop
close to the Canadian border?

I’d believe it could make it to number 40 among all Michigan locations. Maybe. Nationally... That’s a long shot, unless the poll only included 40 cities to sort and Detroit was one of ‘em.

I never met anyone who willingly visited Detroit... and I know many Michiganders.

I heard that Big Jim Walker and Bad, Bad Leroy Brown had joined forces to open a wholesale florist business in Detroit.

It's an intentionally dodgy list. LAOS is number one. NYC is 53.

The Times routinely administers intelligence tests...don't fail it by taking them seriously.

I’ll bet this is mostly Canadians from the Windsor area taking advantage of the strong Canadian dollar to shop in the U.S.

I view New Orleans the same way.

Never thought of that, your probably right. I lived just outside of Detroit for most of my life, I use to go to Canada all the time for that exact reason. (And the lower drinking age of course....)
