It appears that we have positive identification of the rifle used in the Omaha Mall shooting. The pictures from Fox 42: Omaha show an ordinary SKS rifle with a fixed 10 round magazine. The same rifle that millions of people in the United States own for hunting and plinking. It is an acceptable deer rifle for most of the country.
There have been many reports of "assault rifle" used in the MSM, and reports of 30 round magazines. It appears that all of these reports are false, probably intended to stir up anti-gun sentiment before the election.
So, Chief Warren reveals himself as a firearms illiterate and totally unconcerned with factual accuracy in a national news story.

It looks like he used white tape (maybe grey duct tape) around the magazines, if you see the white strip in front of his right arm it helps to make things out.
You might. SKS has fixed magazine with 10 round capacity. He's got to reload after 10 rounds. Gives you an opportunity, to move to cover, better concealment, or take him out.
AK OTOH typically has 30 round removable magazine, although other sizes are of course available. Makes for faster reloading, although not much if you've got loaded stripper clips for the SKS.
Its hard to tell with the resolution of the pictures,it could be a bipod, but its clearly a chinese SKS.
It doesnt look like a police photo either. looks like a sales pic from the web.
Do cops lay guns out on backdrops for pics?

Look all you want at the picture and you will only see a 30 round clip of YOU WANT to see one....
When I look at the picture, I see an arm, a black t shirt roll, and what is probably the article of clothing he covered the gun with hanging from his right hand.
You can bet if the media had a clear shot of an AK47 with a 30 round clip in the video, it would be all over the news. Instead, this is what they give us.

Swapping 30 rounders in an SKS requires you to have the bolt back since the feed lips of the mag ride in grooves in the lower section of the bolt. Other than that you just rock the mags in like an AK.
That is his white T-shirt. Like I said, you will only see a 30 round magazine in the picture if your mind tells you that is what you see.

Kind of hard to distinguish. If you start at the end of the barrel and go down and to the right about 60 degrees you'll see the horizontal piece of what looks like duct tape. The sleeve on his right arm is rolled up past his elbow, so the dark area in front of his right arm is the magazines.
I couldn't make it out until this morning.

My friend’s sister in law was murdered last week while putting gas in her car. The shooter was a guy with mental problems and committed suicide after he killed her. The shooter took the gun from his parents house.
I saw the womens husband on TV last night. He said that he had guns but they were locked away. His questioned how this man had access to guns anyway. He did not put the blame on parents but his point was people need to lock their guns so things like this do not happen.
At work? It was 2 PM on a workday. Only men likely to be in the mall would be employees, not many of sales force would be men, and retirees, not likely to be hysterical.
My mistake, I went back and listened to the audio again, he said, “SKS assault rifle.” Sorry about that!
