It appears that we have positive identification of the rifle used in the Omaha Mall shooting. The pictures from Fox 42: Omaha show an ordinary SKS rifle with a fixed 10 round magazine. The same rifle that millions of people in the United States own for hunting and plinking. It is an acceptable deer rifle for most of the country.
There have been many reports of "assault rifle" used in the MSM, and reports of 30 round magazines. It appears that all of these reports are false, probably intended to stir up anti-gun sentiment before the election.

The second this story broke I knew it was eventually going to be morphed into an anti-gun crusade. When you have Leninists running the media, what else can you expect?
My immediate reaction was “why does NBC, MSNBC, ABC, etc. ALWAYS make sure the first pictures they get out of a shooting tragedy are pictures of HYSTERICAL WOMEN!
Out of the hundreds of people at the mall, surely there were a vast majority of women that can handle a tragic event like this without breaking down into hysteria.

I haven't seen a report of that. Everyone has assumed he was on an antidepressant because he's reported as being depressed. I haven't seen any report which says he was on an antidepressant.
Yup, that looks like a Yugo SKS alright.. Can tell by the grenade launcher at the end of the muzzle.
Here is the strange part however.. the pic of him IN the mall aiming the rifle, looks like an AK. I can see the 30 round mags taped together as well. The front of the rifle in that picture also looks to have a slant break muzzle device (which is common on AK47’s) and not the huge Yugo grenade launcher.
It is also somewhat sexist, where are the hysterical men??

Not really, as a major push by the anti-freedom forces has been to demonize and make hysterical claims about “assault weapons”.
When they deliberately misidentify common rifles as “assault rifles” in an attempt to promote their agenda, it is relevant.

I agree. As another poster wrote, a Chinese SKS has a spike bayonet, while this version has a blade. Also, the Chinese SKS has a noticeably shorter stock, and the wood and wood finish usually isn't of the same quality.
Looks like a Yugoslav SKS, because of the grenade launcher/ muzzle brake. The bayonet has been replaced with some kind of aftermarket bipod or monopod, though, and the stock has some kind of extender/recoil pad on it, so it’s possible the muzzle brake is an aftermarket piece as well.

There is no grenade launcher on the rifle in the pic at the originating website.
There are 30 rd bannana clips made for the SKS but the one in the pics has the original 10 rd magazine.
to change over between the two different configurations requires completely disassembling and reassembling the rifle.
Why would the authority’s disassemble the rifle and reassemble it into the less deadly 10 round version for the photos? and where did they get the 10 round original fixed magazine?

Everybody has an issue. The press wants an assault weappon for their agenda.
Freepers want prozac for their agendas.
All of it turns me off. He murdered 9 people, doesn’t matter what he did it with or what medicine he was on. If you read his history, this was coming sooner or later.
Where are you people seeing these pictures?
I saw a clip on FNC, of the shooter aiming what was clearly a Kalashnikov. The length of the weapon and the shape of the front sight post weren’t from an SKS. I thought I could see an AK magazine, but that doesn’t prove anything.
I’ll have to see if I can find the clip gain, just to prove to myself that I’m not losing it.
