You also forgot the killer bees...
And that asteroid that's always lurking around in space just waiting for the opportunity to crash into Earth. And all the mutating viruses.

To make the obvious parallel here, I am totally glad that the way your cousin's parents dealt with it was not to deny the use of the dye to everyone else in the country. Well, it was 20-odd years ago. That and his dad doesn't particularly like lawyers. :-)
There would have been a revolt. Most chocolate (at the time, dunno if it's still true) had red#2 in it. As did hot dogs (The good, bright red ones!), kool aid and most other drinks, a ton of different candies and gums.
The one that surprised him was store-bought apples, as a 'color enhancer'. Go figure. The local orchard loved to see that family coming....they didn't need to dye their produce to make it look good.

I have lived by two philosophies over the years.
1. No matter what happens don't panic.
2. Never let an idiot mess up more than 15 seconds of your day.
Applied to all the environmental qackos, global warming and ice age nuts..well it doesn't cause me much concern.

Worrying, about all the things that could kill us off, will cause us to die much sooner.

Wait til Al the Bore finds out about all the impact craters on earth 15 miles and greater in diameter... many 30-75 miles.
He's gonna soil his knickers.

I definitely remember the "Coming Ice Age" when I was a kid. That memory has been such a useful tool in arguing with the latest WE'RE ALL GONNA DIE! crowd. Wow, that's my experience exactly.
I so vividly remember seeing a cover of The Weekly Reader in 1st or 2nd grade that showed a drawing of a vast tundra with cities under geodesic domes. The thought of being outside those domes filled me with such panic that the memory is seared, seared, in my mind that when they started sounding off on how we are all going to die from Global Warming(TM) I began to see the pattern of media manipulated panic.

I remember as a kindergartener being worried about the return of the mastodons, since they were in picture books of the last Ice Age.

We’re all trapped in the Democrat Karmage that is ensuing. They danced with the w**res of the world and we’ve all been given the bill. Pony-up people. And don’t make eye contact with them. They are DOOMED. And we gave them a ride to the party.

"Has it ever occurred to you how astonishing the culture of Western society really is? Industrialized nations provide their citizens with unprecedented safety, health, and comfort. Average life spans increased fifty percent in the last century. Yet modern people live in abject fear. They are afraid of strangers, of disease, of crime, of the environment. They are afraid of the homes they live in, the food they eat, the technology that surrounds them. They are in a particular panic over things they can't even see germs, chemicals additives, pollutants. They are timid, nervous, fretful, and depressed."
Totally brilliant. Think about 100 years how many real dangers there were, and how little people seemed to worry compared with today. Now we have very few real dangers, and nothing BUT worry and hand wringing.

And that asteroid that's always lurking around in space just waiting for the opportunity to crash into Earth. It's out there, somewhere and if it gets here before we are ready for it, which might not be so long, or it might be a long time if "just one earth" crowd pervails, We're All Gonna Die.
OTOH, if it waits a bit, It will die.
