Maryland Transit Administration Police said last night that they have found no evidence that the severe beating of a 26-year-old woman on a city bus this week was provoked and that they are investigating the attack as a possible racially motivated hate crime.
Nine middle school students have been charged as juveniles with aggravated assault and destruction of property in the Tuesday afternoon attack on a woman and her male companion on the No. 27 bus.
Police said yesterday that they have determined that there were two additional victims in the case - a third passenger and the bus operator who came to his assistance.
Investigators were examining video from a surveillance camera on the bus but had not completed their analysis.

Please stop making excuses. The "what if" bs has, at this point, no traction because the auhtorities have officially said there was no provocation.
I guarantee your safer in Seattle’s Central District (black neighborhood) as a white person (though you may get some incidents here and there) than you would be in many parts of the ‘hood’ in Baltimore.
I lived in Seattle and had a girlfriend who lived in the Central District. Having been to Detroit and lived in Philly and DC before gentrification, I can assure you it’s a lot safer in the worst neighborhoods of Seattle. Tacoma and some of the suburbs are actually more questionable, IMO.
Whatever you say, tough guy. I’ve lived in Balto. most of my life. Have been in the worst parts of Bal, D.C., NY, LA, NO...Bal is no worse or better than these other cities. And I never mentioned color...
“...Seattles Central District (black neighborhood) as a white person (though you may get some incidents here and there) than you would be in many parts of the hood in Baltimore.”
What are you trying to say here? Seattle’s black area is a district, yet Balto’s is the “hood”?
“...but north of the business district is a massive ghetto.
Unfortunately, at the time I did not have money enough to take a taxi, and I did not have a car, so I had to walk all the way from the business district to Penn Station. As I continued to walk north, the areas became even more rundown, with every other car’s window smashed and covered with plastic bags.”
You’re full of $hit. Walking up Charles st to the Station does not take one through dangerous neighborhoods. And this foolishness about “north of the business district is a massive ghetto” is quite possibly, the dumbest thing I’ve read on FR. Stay in Va.
Fortunately, Pennsylvania is a "shall issue" CCW state
One of my co workers and myself were working on a truck when the driver[who was black always in trouble with the law and coming to work with liquor on his breath]walked up to use and noticed the fish hook on his hat bill.He started hollerin and raising hell about it saying it was a klan symbol and he needed to take it off.I thought he was just messing with him but he was serious. He kept carrying on about it,demanding he remove it.Of course he didn't,we were joking about it later and I said I hoped I drew his name out of the Christmas hat and that I would buy him a box of fish hooks for his Christmas present.
No, I was calling a neighborhood by its proper name since I had experience with it and called places in B-more ‘the hood’ because I don’t know them by name. I mean, I could say West Baltimore but is that specific enough? Probably not.
But the resident who moved into some apartments (in Seattle) we managed who described Bodymore as right out of the Wire, I guess I can take her word for it or no?
I’ll say it again. Baltimore is far less safe for your average white person than Seattle, even if you’re talking about ‘black’ neighborhoods. Since this thread WAS about a race-based attack, I don’t think it’s inappropriate to make the comment.
I believe the original conflict was about what cities were safe when someone said “any other large city.” Well, Seattle is bar none, safer for the average person (white or black) than Baltimore. I’ve read the stats and think there are other cities that could claim as much. So B-more is most decidedly NOT one of those ‘other cities.’ Better than Detroit? Sure.
Ouch. That's not nice.
But, I can't really expect much more out of a Marylander. After all, the president of your State's flagship University in College Park said that any out-of-state students at U.Va. came here because "they don't know any better."
Stay in Va.
Oh, I already do that. I stay far away from the Rat paradise called Maryland.
“Baltimore is far less safe for your average white person than Seattle...”
I have no problems in Baltimore. Sounds like a you’re racist to me.
“But, I can’t really expect much more out of a Marylander.”
Has nothing to do with it. I know the neighborhoods you’re talking about. Either you’re a liar or you’re a liar.
Prove that everything north of the business district is a massive ghetto.
That would have got a wink and nod from Tokyo Rose.
You're asking me to prove that it's a ghetto? Good grief.
How about this: pretty much all of us here across the Potomac who have been to Baltimore think that your city is a ghetto. Hell, your entire state is a ghetto, according to Urban Dictionary (look at all the synonyms for "Baltimore": one of them is ghetto). Since the entire city can be considered a ghetto, any constituent part (including the area north of the business district, within city limits) is probably also a ghetto.
Now, as for what I saw, guess what? That's what I saw. And, honestly, Baltimore is a sketchy city. And yes, I did observe plenty of cars with missing windows covered over with plastic bags, graffiti, sketchy looking people, and increasingly rundown and sad looking buildings.
That's not rigorous proof but I think it's pretty indicative of the conditions in Baltimore.
Now, you chose to attack me personally (calling me a liar, saying that I am full of "$hit", and so forth) instead of trying to...oh, I dunno, convince me that perhaps Baltimore is not a ghetto. In doing so, all you did was reinforce my opinion that Maryland (with the exception of the Western and Southeastern counties) is a trashy state.
And, I will not dignify any more of your responses with posts, because I have better things to do than participate in pissing contests with Marylanders.
“I will not dignify any more of your responses with posts...”
Fine. You’re the one who lied about Balto. I have no use for you. Punk.
I think that I should also mention that I have not had any problems in Baltimore since 1986, which, coincidentally, is the last year I set foot in the place.
I have read of children raised by wolves who believed themselves to be wolves. No amount of evidence will convince them otherwise, nor do they ever learn to speak. They are, not what they are, but what they believe themselves to be. Like you.
You are perfect where you are. Possibly no longer fit or able to breathe fresh air in the company of men, you have come to believe scum to be an acceptable companion and a natural way of life.
And, by the way, it does not matter what you call them. They are what they are and produce the same disease where ever they reside in large numbers; be it town, city, country or continent.
Hahaha...whatever you say.
That’s because the CD 1. has a declining black population 2. Seattle has a small black population and 3. the racial history/dynamics on the East Coast and upper midwest are VERY different than out west. Here in the NE, even poor/lower middle class whites and blacks live segregated from one another (by choice). Out west, its more a question of social class.
Though I have heard rumors that Kreager’s boyfriend used the “N” word ten years ago.
