Maryland Transit Administration Police said last night that they have found no evidence that the severe beating of a 26-year-old woman on a city bus this week was provoked and that they are investigating the attack as a possible racially motivated hate crime.
Nine middle school students have been charged as juveniles with aggravated assault and destruction of property in the Tuesday afternoon attack on a woman and her male companion on the No. 27 bus.
Police said yesterday that they have determined that there were two additional victims in the case - a third passenger and the bus operator who came to his assistance.
Investigators were examining video from a surveillance camera on the bus but had not completed their analysis.

SEPTIC (pardon, SEPTA) has the same problem in Philly. The inner-city public school thugs on the city buses make everyone uncomfortable or downright afraid.
Reminds me of “The Incident” movie. Made in 1967 and starring a very young Martin Sheen, and even Ed McMahon! The whole thing takes place in a subway car. Very intense!

Funny how the excuses get wider and faster circulation than reports of the crime.
Hopkins and the UM Universities and medical complexes are practically the only two large employers left in the city. They keep expanding with government money, as slum after slum is leveled. Without them, and a brokerage house or two with offices downtown, I don’t know who would be working in the city.
Again, assault is a crime, I’m not making excuses, but... If I said, “N” to a black person, I would expect a fist to the face... Just saying, “What if it’s true?”
Baltimore had a murder rate of about 43/100,000 population in 2006. For comparison, the murder rate for Philadelphia and Wash. DC were in the mid 20’s/100,000, and San Diego was around 5.4/100,000.

Have you seen the interactive map of this year’s homicides in Balto?
It is quite instructive. There have been 13 homicides of whites since January, 256 of blacks. There were more than 20 of kids under the age of 18. If kids were dying of food poisoning or shark bites or flu, the publicity would be pervasive. Murder does not even rate an article in the paper, just a tab on the interactive display.

If a white woman got on the after school bus full of black teenagers in Baltimore and “use the n-word” I would say that she was attempting suicide by mass attack. Get serious!

Unfortunately, at the time I did not have money enough to take a taxi, and I did not have a car, so I had to walk all the way from the business district to Penn Station. As I continued to walk north, the areas became even more rundown, with every other car's window smashed and covered with plastic bags.
Baltimore is a sketchy city. So are Washington, Richmond, and Philadelphia, outside of the business districts. Actually, all cities are sketchy, even Charlottesville, where I go to school. Small towns and rural areas are much nicer.

The latest reports indicate it’s NOT, so it’s moot (possibly - we always need to wait a week before the real story emerges).
Anyway, you’re correct that 1 would be stupid to think 1 can say things like that and “get away with it” - just like the “skimpy skirts and cleavage” thing. They’re all extra invitations, if you will.

.....the city runs about 200+ murders/year...Baltimore is a great city to commit murder in...the state’s attorney Pat Jessamy and her office are so riddled with incompetance that in some cases they can’t get murderers to trial within 180 days of arraignment....this bridges their Constitutional right to a speedy trial so the judge orders their release and they walk....BTW Baltimore has the distinction of being the home of the origional “Don’t Snitch DVD”...and they mean it...

......your mother is right!....Baltimore was once a great, great city....for about the last 30 years or so the decline has been very sad to see.....a while back our church group was rehabbing a row house down by Camden Yard...I went out to my truck to get something....it was a bright sunny day and the gutter seemed to sparkle....I was puzzled and bent down to look closer....the sun was glinting off empty crack vials...I picked one up....it had a logo on it!...when you’ve got drug crews working at that level of sophistication you’ve got big problems...and this was in sight of one of the finest sports facilities in the country.
It sounds as if the “n-word” fits in this case.
