A veteran New York City police detective was arraigned on perjury charges in the Bronx yesterday after a suspect in an attempted murder case secretly recorded his interrogation with an MP3 player.
Detective Christopher Perino is accused of lying 12 times during his sworn testimony in the April trial of the suspect, Erik Crespo, by saying that he did not conduct an interrogation of Mr. Crespo.
At yesterdays hearing in State Supreme Court in the Bronx, Detective Perino, 42, a member of the department for 19 years, pleaded not guilty to 12 counts of first-degree perjury. He made no further comment during his court appearance. He has been suspended and has surrendered his badge and gun, the police said. He was released on $15,000 bail.

no testilying for this popo.
lol...
PING
The thing is is was most likely a good arrest, but the officer in choosing to violate the rights of the defendant, then lie in court, blew it.

It is a good thing when police officers are forced to tell the truth.
Wow, so damning! A dirty cop is worse than a criminal.
Seriously. The only thing worse than an american citizen violating the rights of another citizen is when the government does it to a citizen
COPS LIE?...I am shocked....
But I thought perjury wasn’t really a crime anymore? Wonder where I got that idea.
Cop needs to do some real time. And ALL interogations by cops need to be recorded!
I have an old truck and looked out of place where I lived. After getting pulled over by the local police quite a few times without ever getting a ticket I dialed myself on my cell phone and just laid it next to me. After the cop explained to me that the trailer hitch ball on my bumper covered up part of my license plate, I asked him if he minded my recording our conversation on my voicemail. Never got pulled over again.
BTW, Hunter is still the best!
Around here the standard reason for getting pulled over is that whatever car you’re driving looks like a car police are looking for.
Reality, meet modern technology.
Many mp3 players have a “voice record” function; this means that almost everyone is “wired” now.
Never trust a LEO.
Their interests are not your interests.
Why make that assumption?
