Executive Order: Closing of Executive Departments and Agencies of the Federal Government on Monday, December 24, 2007
By the authority vested in me as President by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, it is hereby ordered as follows:
Section 1. All executive branch departments and agencies of the Federal Government shall be closed and their employees excused from duty on Monday, December 24, 2007, the day before Christmas Day, except as provided in section 2 below.
Sec. 2. The heads of executive branch departments and agencies may determine that certain offices and installations of their organizations, or parts thereof, must remain open and that certain employees must report for duty on December 24, 2007, for reasons of national security or defense or other public need.
Sec. 3. Monday, December 24, 2007, shall be considered as falling within the scope of Executive Order 11582 of February 11, 1971, and of 5 U.S.C. 5546 and 6103(b) and other similar statutes insofar as they relate to the pay and leave of employees of the United States.
GEORGE W. BUSH
THE WHITE HOUSE,
December 6, 2007.
I have several relatives who work for the postal service and for the TSA (at the airports). Some of them will also be reporting for work on Christmas Eve. I think the type of “hack” Howie Carr refers to are the types who work Monday thru Friday... you know, the bored office worker type who is always watching the clock...
Oh, please, don’t be so bitter and Scrooge-like. My federal job involves collecting defaulted student loans, so I’m recovering money for the taxpayer.
Merry Christmas!
How does a Federal Employee Wink? He opens one eye :)
Merry Christmas!
You're right. Take the whole week off. You deserve it.
Recess appointments???
I am productive at work===productively freeping!
;o)
D’Oh!
I work with a group of people who, like me, don't like to socialize or attend events like this...we've all already made excuses as to why we aren't attending our department's holiday potluck next week.
offistes=offsites
You are a lucky person!!! I find them tiresome (and potentially health threatening) and of course if you do not participate you are looked at with scorn by the “organizers”.
Reason #1 for not attending (for me at least): I have observed the (unsanitary) habits of many of the women with whom I work. No post-toileting hand-washing and potlucks do not go together, in my book.
“Oh yes, Im also wone of those Fat s*bs drawing also drawing retirement after 20 years as a career Army NCO. Thus Im a double Fat A...”
So basically, you’ve never worked...good scam, if you can get it...
“Fat a$$ hogs living off the scraps of the little people.”
Federal employees aren’t just the ones in DC. Pretty disgusting to put down all the ‘little people’ who happen to make a living from the federal government. My husband earns every penny he makes. He is making the same thing he did before he took his federal job. Sorry that you have to work but that doesn’t mean everyone else should be forced to do it with you.
My old boss worked on at least some Saturdays as well. I also have a good friend who works as a congressional staffer she starts around 8 in the morning and usually doesn’t head home until 7 or 8 at night.
Carolyn
...”compassionate conservatism”...gots to luv it.
My company just did the same thing........ except no holiday pay, use your vacation or go un-paid for the day.
“Seriously though, does this effect the Post Office? Or will the last delivery day be 12/22?”
Mail will run on Christmas Eve and packages will still be delivered on Christmas day. Mom is post master and she has to have someone available on Christmas day to come in if a Christmas package needs to be delivered.
I think you forgot your /S tag. I certainly hope you did because I’ve never met an active duty soldier that didn’t work his ass off most of the time.
