As some of you know, I am from Omaha. Just my opinion, for what its worth, but Im watching the reports on TV and Radio, both locally (here in Omaha) and nationally and Im getting ticked off .. I have to speak out.
I've been listening to people who knew this kid, on a local radio station, talking about threats he has made. There was one classmate who claims he threatened to kill her and burn down her house. Then there are the friends from his clique who are defending him. One even supposedly threatened to kill another student who was talking about what a horrible person he was to do such a thing.
I am sick and tired of being told about how shocked the people who knew him were (that he would do such a thing). In spite of knowing hed been in trouble with the law, was suicidal, depressed, emotionally disturbed, and had ideas of killing people.
The lady (he lived in her house) knew he had just dropped out of school, was emotionally unstable, diagnosed depressed, suicidal, just lost his girlfriend 2 weeks ago, just got fired from his pathetic job, that he felt he was nothing but a worthless piece of shit and didn't want to be a burden to anyone, anymore. This kid was probably exhibiting all of the classic signs of a time bomb, waiting to go off. And to top it off, he was supposedly playing with guns the night before the killing spree!!
OF COURSE NOBODY EVER SAW IT COMING !!!!!
I can already feel the Brady minions coming out of the woodwork to grab up the SKSs because nobody recognized this blatant danger to our community. And one other thing .. an SKS is NOT a high powered rifle!
Next, we are going to see signs all over the Malls saying not to bring in weapons. And how long before some nutcase announces that these poor victims deserved this, for wasting gas driving to the Mall (celebrating the HATED Christmas season, no less) in the first place! Who could have imagined it would ever come to this?
Makes you think its a real good idea to just shop online .. no hassles, no taxes and you dont have to take your life into your hands! Thanks for letting me vent a bit.
Radio station news announcer designated the SKS he used as an “assault rifle”. Clearly trying to scare those that don’t know better.
Same old stuff from the bozos in the media.
Interesting that the guy was already a felon and barred by law from having a firearm in his hands. Guess those gun control laws don’t work real well huh?
In FL, you can laugh at the “NO GUNS” signs and walk on past. They aren’t enforceable at all.
“This kid was probably exhibiting all of the classic signs of a time bomb, waiting to go off. And to top it off, he was supposedly playing with guns the night before the killing spree!!”
I’ve read reports he had felony convictions. If true he had the weapon illegally.
So many warning signs and nobody did anything.
“In FL, you can laugh at the NO GUNS signs and walk on past. They arent enforceable at all.”
How so?
Realistically, what can be done? Full police investigation of anybody known to have a gun?
The reports I heard today said everyone saw this coming. Unlike most of these events where everyone says the person was quiet and kept to themselves. Everyone is saying it was just a matter of time before this person did something stupid.
“Next, we are going to see signs all over the Malls saying not to bring in weapons”
An open invitation for people like him to bring in weapons knowing that nobody else can defend themselves ....
If only the mall had some of these around it would have been totally safe..........
“An open invitation for people like him to bring in weapons knowing that nobody else can defend themselves ....”
I don’t go to the mall without a weapon. They are a magnet for all kinds of criminals. I also avoid the mall as much as possible.
It's not like anyone with a brain would want to face down an SKS-wielding attacker armed only with a pistol, but A) It's better than nothing, and B)widespread and common CCW's can at least serve to give potential killers pause and realize that there's a possibility that all his victims may not just lay down like sheep.
Prayers out for all the killed and injured.
In the malls I worked at (Thank God I don’t work in malls anymore) employees would turn in customers when they saw a gun, it’s amazing what we see in dressing rooms. And malls throw people out all the time. Most malls even take your picture and log your name when they remove you from their premises so you can’t come back. I worked in a mall in Texas that bragged about how many people they removed. If people complained about the picture and the ban they just called the cops. People who run malls tend to be petty despots with a power complex. I have learned to steer clear of them.
The ad for this sign:
Protect yourself and others around you by maintaining the rule that does not allow weapons on the premises.
People never learn...
The woman in the family who took him in said it looked too old to work.
The only thing I can think of is if someone knew he was a felon in possession of a firearm they could have reported it. But chances are he would have been let loose after a brief sentence and this would have happened anyway.
The lesson learned (for the 1,000,000,000th time in history) is that there are bad people in the world, and bad things are done to good people by bad people. There is no way to preempt their actions entirely. So we should be prepared to defend ourselves and our loved ones at all times.
Except maybe an US post offices where there are metal detectors.
I heard that he was fired for stealing money ($17 was mentioned) from his employer. Sorry, I’m not feeling bad for him.
And his parting words: now I’m gonna be famous - or something to that effect. That seems to be the ambition of a generation. Fame.
No depth to a life like that.
My prayers for the families who are suffering the loss.
