Former President Bill Clinton proved that not even the Queen of Spain could distract him from sitting beside his favourite actress Penelope Cruz.
Clinton was present at the Spanish Institute Gold Medal Gala on Park Avenue along with Vogue editor Anna Wintour and Queen Sofia of Spain.
According to socialdiary.com, Mr. Clinton was seated next to the Queen of Spain, on her right with Mr. Oscar de la Renta on her left.
To the left of Mr. de la Renta was Ms. Cruz, and to right of Mr. Clinton was Anna Wintour.
The main highlight of the evening was when former president eventually switched his seat with Mr. de la R so that he could be seated next to the movie star.
After being felicitated with a medallion from Queen Sofia, Clinton revealed to the audience that he has seen everyone of the Cruz's movie.
"I was trying to figure out exactly why I would receive this award tonight. It may be because even though I'm not of Spanish descent, I've seen every one of Penelope Cruz's movies - and I liked them all," said Clinton. (ANI)
Their common ancestor is George I, King of the Hellenes (1845-1913), who was the son of King Christian IX of Denmark. George I's seventh child, Prince Andrew of Greece, was Prince Philip's father. George I's eldest son was Constantine I, King of the Hellenes, HIS third son (and third to sit on the throne) was Paul I, King of the Hellenes, and Sophia is his second child. So they're 1st cousins once removed.
I waste a lot of time on genealogy.
Our fridge is NOT metal, so I can't stick pictures on the front w/ magnets . . . much to my dismay. And tape leaves marks on the paint.
My daughter’s nickname at college is Juana la loca.
WOW, did you already know all that or did you do a quick Google search???

So not going there!
Stroke It. And the hits just keep on comin, thanks to the Clinton’s.
Here’s something odd for FR researchers to consider: when I tried to look up the original item referenced in the article, the site “socialdiary.com” does not come up at all except in a couple of articles (and this thread!) referencing the matter:
Has the site been taken down for some reason related to this controversy?? (tinfoil hat here) Normally just about any website wants to promote its notoriety and fame by getting linked, but I cannot currently find any evidence that www.socialdiary.com even exists now except for the couple of references to it......... WHAT HAPPENED TO IT?
("always verify your references").
The trick, of course, is knowing where to look.
I am a bit of a bug on British royal genealogy, so I have a couple of websites on tap. I'm pretty solid on the British royals without having to check, but when I get off into collaterals like the Oldenburgs, I have to go look.
And once you get into Queen Victoria's era, they are so intermarried that the Guelphs and the Oldenburgs and their various collaterals keep crossing generational paths.
OK, I’m still impressed! :^)
As you say, a lot of “knowledge” is knowing where & how to find the relevant info, quickly when necessary. The Internet has made a lot of that easier, but there are mountains of irrelevant stuff too, so it takes a practiced mind and touch to burrow though it efficiently.
That is some of the funniest s-— I’ve seen in a long time! :)
Genealogy isn’t a waste of time in itself. Genealogy of worthless people like “royals” certainly qualifies.
Our job has been made a whole lot easier by the internet. I remember the days when we had to do legal research in actual books, with huge volumes of Shepard's Citations and Digests and Encyclopedias to try to organize the case reports in some way. Individual word search has made the whole thing a breeze, compared to the bad old days. I was one of the first people to use the very first LEXIS terminal in Atlanta -- it was a stand alone linked to the mainframe in Wisconsin, in the District Courthouse on Spring Street, and they installed it in 1980 or 1981 IIRC. So I've had lots of practice with Boolean logic.
Same for genealogy. Of course, since the genealogy sites aren't funded and standardized like the law research sites, there are many errors out there, even in the LDS stuff which is pretty solid.
But it sure beats the days of hanging around in the basements of courthouses all across Georgia and Alabama, among the dusty old books and crazy old ladies in tennis shoes (but I did that too, I was just a crazy YOUNG lady at the time! And everybody wore tennis shoes because those concrete floors would kill you if you wore pumps.)
OK, I found the site, it is actually www.newyorksocialdiary.com
(but I still can’t find the original item on the site, although I can find a truncated reference to it in a search of the site):

But this is discounted when Bill Clinton is in the room. As he was on Thursday night at 583 Park at table with the Queen of Spain, Mr. de la Renta and the ...
Certainly Penelope has more taste than that Old Goat?? That Medal needs a big Gold Chain.

I resent people who rule through their birthright rather than merit and don’t really care to know much about them. Sorry. I do enjoy history though, so I guess I see where you’re coming from.
If you study history, though, you'll find that folks actually don't rule merely through their birthright. Over and over again the weak and vicious were ruthlessly disposed of and the strong raised up in their place (Henry VI . . . Edward II . . . William Rufus). Even in modern times, those who don't deserve to rule get deep-sixed (e.g. Edward VIII). And I have a ten spot somewhere that says Prince Chuck won't ever be crowned king . . . .
HEY...trailer trash have feelings too. How would YOU like being said to be the same as Slick Willie? Personally, I think Der Schlickmeister’s trashiness sinks and oozes far far lower than even the worst trash of any community, he just has more money and power to cover the bulk of it up. We only see the tip of the iceberg of what this guy is capable of. The scary thing - he’s in position to regain the power of the White House without the accountability that goes with it. As an elected official he had to at least toe a little bit of the line, as First Cheater he doesn’t have to toe anything except whatever female he’s seeking to molest that particular moment.
That is freakin’ SWEET, except for the unfortunate associations (such as carting her husband’s corpse around to view at inopportune moments). What did she do to earn that?
Maybe they're for sale at the Clinton Library.
