Individual royals may be worthless in and of themselves (and lord knows many of them are, chinless wonders like Prince Chuck), but the royal lines are far from worthless. You can't hope to understand European history for the last 500 years without knowing who was related to whom. It wasn't until after Victoria that the British royals began to lose their very real power to influence political events. And even now there is still some influence there, although it's more along the lines of Bagehot's dictum "to advise, to encourage, and to warn."

I resent people who rule through their birthright rather than merit and don’t really care to know much about them. Sorry. I do enjoy history though, so I guess I see where you’re coming from.
