That is freakin’ SWEET, except for the unfortunate associations (such as carting her husband’s corpse around to view at inopportune moments). What did she do to earn that?

She’s just highly eccentric, like her mom . . . also fluent in Spanish, which her mom is definitely NOT. And her name is an English derivative of Juana — she was “Juanita” in grade school Spanish classes, when she got to college I guess she got promoted out of the diminutive form of the name. And then the “la loca” just sort of seemed to add itself naturally. (But, really, is it all that odd in that time and place, carrying your late lamented’s coffin around with you? People did it all the time with relics of saints, and folks saw a lot more dead folks than we do now when they’re all shuffled away into hospitals and funeral homes. I hope he was well embalmed though.)
