Clinton Campaign Attacks Press For Not Realizing Kindergarten Crack a Joke
NewsBusters ^ | Mark Finkelstein

That Hillary Clinton -- such a prankster! Yes, if there's one thing Hillary is known for, it's her great sense of humor and light touch. So when she included Barack Obama's statements as a third-grader and kindergartner in her press release for purposes of demonstrating he was lying when he said he hadn't long harbored presidential ambitions, we should have all realized it was just one more of Hillary's rib-ticklers. Too bad that gullible old MSM let itself get spun.

That in essence is what Mark Penn [file photo], Hillary's chief strategist, would have people believe about the press release Clinton put out two days ago. Penn appeared on today's Morning Joe, and talk soon turned to the release:

It's true. I happen to know personally that, after some light-hearted discussion, they decided not to include his drawing of "the White House" they obtained when they ransacked his kindergarten teacher's house. That would have given it away.

Didn’t you realize Hillary was joking?

Reminds us of that other great Democrat jokester, Jon Carry.

Translation: If the slung mud works to dirty the opposition, it was great strategy. If it backfires, they claim it was meant as a joke.

The staffer that put out the final, approved release left out the emoticon from the end.

In one of the Klintooon huddle rooms is a flip-chart with excuses to use. This one has been scratched off the list. Their reaction to the reaction has stop gaps and stuff like this ready to go. There will be some more like it. Remember, this is the team that has gas bags like Begalia, Carville, et. al.

I say they get more ridiculous as they start getting more desperate.

RUSH:...How many kids say, "I want to be president"? I mean, how many people in the third grade during the nineties say, "I want to be Bill Clinton in five years?" (laughing) They found a teacher to do the hit piece. The Clinton opposition research went out and they found a teacher to do the hit piece. This is why some in the Drive-Bys, like Robert B. Reich-h-h-h-h, on his blog are upset at the lengths to which the Clintons are going here. "Mrs. Clinton's campaign may have decided to gloss over those ambiguities to avoid suggestions that she was challenging his loyalty or echoing apocryphal claims from some on the right that Mr. Obama attended a school that taught militant Islam or that he is secretly Muslim. … The Clinton research sheet picks up that part of the story but ignores the quote that comes next," from the teacher. The quote is, the teacher wrote that the future senator wanted to be president. He wrote that he wanted to be president in response to an assignment about what he wanted to be when he grew up. "'He didn't say what country he wanted to be president of. But he wanted to make everybody happy,' Ms. Sinaga said. The similar kindergarten anecdote, which comes from an Associated Press dispatch, has no indication of what country Mr. Obama hoped to lead."

Now, the Clinton campaign did not mention that to try to stay away from the Muslim deal, but "Yesterday may not have been the first time the Clinton campaign seized on the report about Mr. Obama's kindergarten dreams. A Web logger for Time magazine, Ana Marie Cox, reported on November 11 that 'a little birdie' had urged her to fact-check the Illinois senator's claims against his kindergarten record." (Laughing) So the Clintons are out there dropping little clues to reporters, "You know, Obama said he wanted to be president in third grade. He's lying! He's lying when he said he only decided recently to run." (interruption) Well, that's not troubling. Snerdley says the troubling thing is that the school record follows you for the rest of your life. When you want to be president, everything you've done is going to follow you. That's not the point here. The point is that the Clintons have come across a third grade reading homework assignment and are trying to turn it into a controversy that Obama can't tell the truth! Once again from the people who have patented lying and how to get away with it, accusing Obama of telling a lie because of an assignment he had in the third grade! (laughing) I, for one, folks, find this just as humorous as it can be. (cont.)

Show Us Some Onions, Obama...Respond to Mrs. Clinton's ridiculous hypocritical attacks.

RUSH:...Just last week they were marveling -- as they do with anything the Clintons do, they were marveling -- at her flawless campaign; her fundraising juggernaut; and her commanding, insurmountable lead in the polls. But she's got problems on all fronts. She's not necessarily -- these problems are not deadly, but they are worrisome for her, and she didn't expect to have any worries in the race, and she's reacting in such a way that the Drive-Bys are a little concerned here that she's overreacting and acting like she's down by double digits in some of these states when she's not. Her fundraising is the usual case. This is why if Obama... Folks, it's just sitting there, for Howard Wolfson to go out there and is that Obama's PAC is a slush fund, what's the Clinton library? What's Media Matters for America? What's MoveOn.org? What are all these Clinton organizations if not slush funds that are designed to promote her candidacy and to make her president? So she's run around now, and her campaign advisor says Obama's PAC is a slush fund. She's got a PAC too called HILPAC. All he's gotta do is come back and say, "I can't believe that the leader of slush funds is accusing me of having one."

This is what the Clintons do. Mrs. Clinton is also saying that you can't get a straight answer out of Barack Obama. Maybe not, but you're never going to get one out of Mrs. Clinton, ever! So she's setting the table for Barack, if he's got the onions to get serious about this. You can't just sit out there and rely on Oprah to try to persuade people. He's going to have to show that he can get in there and roll up the sleeves and respond to this sort of stuff because he's got the ammo on his side. Look at her fundraising: unlawful contributions from Norman Hsu to the Chinese dishwashers in Chinatown. Her campaign is not flawless. It has not been flawless. She blew it big time for driver's licenses on illegal aliens and she's considered all over the map on the war. She is a big-spending, high-taxing leftist. She has flip-flopped all over the place. She's used her gender as a defense, claiming victimhood. Her husband, Bill, is as much of a liability as an asset with his tendency to pop off. The dirty little secret about that is -- and I think they've probably come to this conclusion -- that it would be much easier for people to think they're reelecting him than electing Hillary, because he's far more popular than she will ever dream of being.

Now, you might say, "Will that upset her ego?" I don't think so. Their quest for power is all consuming. However they get there I don't think is relevant, unless we're making a miscalculation about Clinton's ego. He may be trying to sabotage her out there. People are still holding that out, because he wants to be the only Clinton that was ever president. We'll see. So all these things remain to be seen. So Iowa, Iowa could be up for grabs as far as the Democrats are concerned. If Hillary loses there, her invulnerability becomes obvious. It's like Wesley Pruden said last week in the Washington Times: Candidates of inevitability cannot lose even once. If you are inevitable, and you lose, then, of course, you weren't inevitable, but you were at one point, and somehow the inevitability vanished. What happened? All sorts of question marks get raised. Her tendency will be to resort to angry, shrill personal attacks because that's who she is, and it's already starting: these angry, shrill personal attacks on Obama.

I haven’t listened to Rush in years due my peculiar type of hearing loss and too many commercials, but I recall he used to say “leave the humor to the professionals”. I think that fits in here somewhere.

She’s getting lots of criticism in the press for the comment so she says, Hey, only joking! She’s the queen of subterfuge, or would it be artifice?. Hey, this would make a great debate topic: Is Hillary more skilled at subterfuge or artifice? Could I submit that to You Tube?

There are ways to make it clear you are joking. You can follow the joke, by saying, “all kidding aside” or “on a more serious note”, for example. Or you can make the joke so crazy and outrageous, no one could take it seriously

Yes but a really good way to tell if she was joking or not is to listen to her say it. I haven't heard her remarks. You may also be able to make an informed opinion by a person's history. From her history, I know she was being serious

I may say, "hey! I'm voting for Hillary"! Am I joking when I say that? Look at my posting history.

Yeah, sure.

This is the same thing she pulled when the Eleanor Roosevelt thing got leaked to the press - that she was just “joking.” Of course, that isn’t true, because she hired a new-age “guru” to help her “communicate” with the dead.
