CNN Reporter: Stacked GOP Debate 'Inexcusable'
Jeff Gannon - A Voice of the New Media ^ | 12/3/2007 | Jeff Gannon

Posted on 12/03/2007 9:30:00 PM PST by ConservativeMajority

CNN's chief national correspondent John King criticized his network's handing of the Republican YouTube debate that critics have called "Debate-gate" because at least ten of the supposed "undecided Republican voters" submitting video questions turned out to be Democratic activists. Responding to a question from the audience at a National Press Club program about media coverage of the 2008 presidential election Monday night, King admitted that "fundamental journalism mistakes" were made in the vetting process.

King called the mistakes "inexcusable" and said that the debacle "should not have happened." So far, CNN has not announced any investigation of the circumstances surrounding controversy or disciplinary action against those responsible for organizing the debate.

I assume that was said in a “whining” tone?

Troll elsewhere.

We are fools to accept media bias and not fight it.

You don’t succeed by playing in a game in which your enemy controls all the rules.

Unless you win anyway despite the disadvantage. The Republican candidates didn't do bad in that debate. It's CNN that is getting hurt by all of this.

We cheat, make “mistakes”, and lie a lot and we agree it is inexcusable. But we are going to keep on doing it since we think it works well for us. Especially with our friends around the world.

100% correct. I very much like post 40’s idea of bypassing the MSM entirely, and holding a GOP debate entirely online.

And why not start with right here at Free Republic?

Seriously. Let each candidate buy 30 second commercials, to pay for whatever hardware upgrades would be needed to run a streaming debate, and have a go.

Then a month later, perhaps a followup at “Hot Air”.

It’s really a great idea.

PS: Is your screen name “Top Hat” or “Too Phat”? :)

There were no mistakes made. DNCNN staged the Debacle exactly how they orchestrated it. General Fudge was known by everyone including Cooper. There were no mistakes, that is how the Old News works.

The Republican candidates didn't do bad in that debate

Alan Keyes is the only Republican on the 2008 Florida presidential primary ballot who was not on the stage. He was arbitrarily excluded by CNN.

His voice was silenced, to the detriment of the sovereign people of the state, and of the country.

Interesting that Jeff Gannon is so hot on this story. The lefties made his presence at Bush press conferences into “a major scandal.” The CNN thing is much, much worse, because Gannon was representing himself as a journalist, which arguably he was. What CNN did was pure dictionary-definition fraud.

This was fraud, pure and simple

Of course it is and if any candidate who didn't know that CNN is the most biased outlet on tv, they are stupid, "pure and simple".

Any Republican candidate appearing on a CNN sponsored forum lends a legitimacy to CNN that they have never earned.

The rats had no probem just saying no to Fox.

Two issues: first the questions. That’s what we ought not be seen as “whining” about, and I don’t think we are, generally. I beleive that SoConPubbie was really referring to this aspect of the issue with the particular remark you are taking out of context.

SoConPubbie is NOT a “troll”, but I have my doubts about you. You seem to be trying your best to dredge up a conflict where none really exists.

Second is CNN’s apparent participation in a deception.

This is what SoConPubbie had to say about that:

“I agree with you, CNN should not get a pass.”

What’s your continuing problem? And you won’t get away with calling ME a newbie or a troll.

“Inexcusable”? John King said that??

The whole thing was a scam from the beginning....
CNN decides ahead of time what the questions will be. Next they invite millions of Americans to ask “whatever questions they want” via YouTube. CNN then sifts through the YouTube questions until they’ve matched up the entries to their own list and voila!! - - a YouTube “debate”.

How hard is this to figure out?
The whole thing was fixed from the beginning. Obviously.

No, we need more of the GOP whining, throwing fits and demanding fairness.

Who in the world would wish for wimp, do-nothing politicians as we have had. Remember, our GOP representatives did not fight for our goals, they did not stand with the president, they did far far too much of the “go along to get along” “good ole boys” “my friend across the aisle” nonsense. Which is why I no longer contribute to the GOP.

I get nothing for my contribution but a bunch of wimps who will not fight for me in Washington.

I felt that this format degraded the stature of the office that is being sought by the candidates. Liberals always try to play to the lowest common denominator and bring everyone down to their level.

The format is unique, in that it gives CNN the ability to pose the questions, while not really taking any kind of journalistic responsibility for it; “Well, it’s not us asking the questions. It’s the undecided voter on youtube that asked!!”

I wish the Republicans would simply swear off the youtube nonsense. It is insipid and narcissistic by it’s very nature. Let ‘em go on CNN, if they must, let one of their anchors ask the questions - loaded or unloaded - and let the candidates deal with it. I guess that it was worth a try to see what the format would bear out. I’ll be pretty disappointed if they step in it again.

I’m still an independent after all these years - and it’s stuff like this that keeps me on that path.

Rise above it? Nonsense. We need fighters up there.

Do you ever see a democrat let us get away with anything? Don’t the democrats rant and rave continually ignoring the truth but pushing through their agenda and we do not even counter them.

I want a lot more fighting. Rising above it gets us nothing but makes it a lot easier for the dems to manipulate their propaganda machines.

Not fight? You must be nuts or a democrat.

No, we don’t need to tone down the griping. What would happen if we did?

Do you suppose the dems would move right along, treating the debates as their tool to skewer the GOP at their own debates preventing them from getting to the real meat of their agenda. Why, that then would prevent the GOP from using their air time to show how their agenda is better for America wouldn’t it.

We need fighters. If they won’t fight injustice and unfairness in their own campaign do you really think they will fight injustice and unfairness for us and America?
