KATHMANDU (Reuters) - A U.S.-based television channel investigating the existence of the legendary Yeti in Nepal has found footprints similar to those said to be that of the abominable snowman, the company said on Friday.
A team of nine producers from Destination Truth, armed with infrared cameras, spent a week in the icy Khumbu region where Mount Everest is located and found the footprints on the bank of Manju river at a height of 2,850 meters (9,350 feet).
One of the three footprints discovered on Wednesday is about one foot long, or is of similar size and appearance as shown in sketches of the mystical ape-like creature believed to live in snowy caves, the TV company said.
"It is very very similar," Josh Gates, host of the weekly travel adventure television series, told Reuters in Kathmandu after returning from the mountain.
"I don't believe it to be (that of) a bear. It is something of a mystery for us," said Gates, 30, an archaeologist by training.
Tales by sherpa porters and guides about the wild and hairy creatures lurking in the Himalayas have seized the imagination of foreign mountain climbers going to Mount Everest since the 1920s.
Several teams have searched for it and some have even claimed to have discovered footprints.
But no one has actually seen the creature nor has it been scientifically established that the Yeti exists. Gates said the footprints on lumps of sandy soil, which would be sent to experts in the United States for analysis, were "relatively fresh left some 24 hours before we found them".
"This print is so pristine, so good that I am very intrigued by this," Gates, flanked by his team members, said adding the findings would prompt more investigation into the Yeti.
Destination Truth chronicles some of the world's notorious crypto-zoological creatures and unexplained phenomena.
Some local sherpas believe that the Himalayas are abodes of strange creatures and consider the Yeti as a protector while others say it is a destroyer.
"There is a kind of mysterious creature that lives in the Himalayas," said Ang Tshering Sherpa, chief of Nepal Mountaineering Association in Kathmandu, who hails from the Khumbhu region were Mount Everest is located.
That’s nothing. I’ve got a picture of him.
Stop posting pictures of Helen Thomas!
Janet Reno?
I am quite certain that Hillary's namesake would never try to mislead us like that.
I think you owe the abominable snowman an apology.
Perfect, hope you’ve continued your fun as you’ve gotten older.
They do look like the tracks photographed by Eric Shipton during an expedition to the Himalayas in 1951
Please add me to the Crypto list, Thank you in advance.
Obviously made by a bear with a bad case of foot mange.
Those commercials are HILARIOUS!
Wasn’t that Patterson film outed as a fraud? I thought it was.
no actually it wasn’t. As a matter of fact I saw an interview with the leading hollywood costume maker at that time who studied the film and he said, there is no way that is a costume because they didnt have the fake hair that would move and reflect like that at that time. Also he said that the folds of skin and movement were too perfect.
I never bought into any of it until I started reading the reports at BFRO.net and there are first hand eyewitness reports (and newpaper articles)some going back to the 1800’s. I have know Idea what it or they are but there are just too many individuals that have seen these things at different times that report the same consistant things to have it be a coincidence. Many happened before the internet and before the patterson film was even shot. So it would be hard for a bunch of individuals to make up a story of a creature, describing how they look and behave without knowing the other persons descriptions of account.
So I don’t know what it is, I just know I sit back and now go...”hmmmmm” rather than “PPPffff” and dismiss it.

Cool. Honestly, I’d LOVE for there to be a big hairy half-human who walks on two legs and lumbers around North America aimlessly (in addition to Janet Reno of course).
Thanks for the info. I guess I was thinking of the Loch Ness monster photog who confessed on his deathbed that it was all a hoax. I was rooting for that to be true also...
That being said, it is only the latest info regarding the footage. Until true physical evidence is found, it only adds to the mystery. I would not hinge a conclusion on this, but technology has come a long way in 40 years and it will only get better.
With more true scientists open to the posibility of a large hominid, and the technology they are using, it will be a matter of time for an outcome.
There is a good Monster Quest episode that goes over a lot of what I just talked about. Also, the BFRO and the TBRC have pretty good websites that follow the expeditions. Also cryptomundo.com is a good place to check. K4
It was a hoax. Patterson died of cancer shortly after this movie was made.
Not long ago, the Yakima Herald Republic featured this and Champoux fessed up to the fact that he was the guy in the gorilla suit. He still had the suit after all of these years.
Whad’ya think about this?
I really don’t know what to think of such tales.
So many from so many sources . . . seems like SOMETHING may be going on . . .
but could be nothing more than folks enjoying stirring up other folks with very tall tales.
Then there are the stories of UFO’s letting off various critters on this planet like Yeti etc . . . for mysterious reasons.
God only knows the whole story. And, it doesn’t seem central to HIS priorities to let us in on what He knows about such.
So, I guess we wait and amuse ourselves with the curious stories.
Thanks.
