I don't think things can get more screwed up with airport security. This isn't about how investigators were able to smuggle liquid explosives and detonators past TSA screeners earlier this year. It's about the atrocious treatment endured by some Fort Lewis soldiers who were escorting the remains of a colleague home to Virginia earlier this month. Brief background: On the tarmac, an honor guard had been formed by Port of Seattle Police, airport fire and rescue and military personnel as the soldier's body was placed on the plane. A police officer then took the escort soldiers up to security. The TSA screener checked everyone's ID, including the police officer, and then had the soldiers go through the metal detectors. Their combat ribbons and medals set off the alarms. So what does the TSA screener do? He has the soldiers strip off their uniforms - in front of everyone - down to their tee shirts, pants and socks. Will someone please tell me what the hell is wrong with these people? How does some inept, insensitive idiot with the IQ of room temperature even get a TSA job? That TSA screener should have his @ss fired. And those soldiers deserve at least an apology.
A caller (reservist) into the Kirby Wilbur show said he applied for a TSA job and the Somalie worker refused even an interview. So, you have to get past a Somalian at the TSA office to get these jobs? And in Somalia the number one religion is what ?

There’s no reasonable excuse for that. That screener should get fired, their manager needs at least a good chewing out. Maybe the lot of them need some good old fashioned “diversity training” so they can learn to respect Americans.

Can they actually be fired? I mean, without it costing taxpayers $1,000,000? I thought the congressional Demonrats got the TSA screeners all placed on the federal gov't payroll.

All I can say is WTF!!!
It could come to the point at which normal is to fly naked and ship every sort of bag and luggage items ahead on ups planes.
When the Bush administration was trying to push through legislation to make airport security a federal position in TSA, they said the people hired would be of a higher caliber because they’d be paid more as federal employees.
They lied.
As Schram says, a significant number of TSA airport screeners have the IQ of room temperature.
Hey, Ken; that is the only kind of people that will get a job at TSA.
Base requirement is to be stupid.
Also, being insensitive and overbearing will help one's chances as well.
And if you're a recent imigrant that might somehow be considered a "minority", you're a shoo-in for the job.
TSA does not stand for Transportation and Security Administration. To those of us who fly on official business on a regular basis, it means “Thousands Standing Around”. The military are not the only ones being abused by these wanna be cops.
I really hate to dis on a military respect thread....but....everyone who goes thru security must remove their jacket and shoes.
We get all het up when a politico tries to slide thru security. I agree with you, this wasn’t a respectful thing to put the soldiers thru, but rules are rules. I’ve seen flight crew go thru security, and while they get their own special gate, they too have to strip down.
I volunteer to be an observer to ensure the green berets rights aren’t violated.

My 76 year old father.... shoes.... TSA person accosting his 73 year old wife for trying to hand him shoes... after he’d been cleared...
grrr....
They forced my 2 year old daughter to go through the detector by herself, wouldn’t allow my wife to carry her through. They have the right to pull them aside, which they should’ve done instead of leaving my daughter alone, crying on the other side of the detector while they order her through in a rough tone of voice. What a bunch of idiots.
