Yes, indeed.....he held a special place in my heart. And he was a very good man who was a leader in maintaining the sanctity of life.
We were young politicians together in Du Page county, Illinois, the site of his congressional district, He was a state rep at the time.
Periodically, local pols would gather at a local Irish watering-hole for lunch. Politics was discussed no end. Many times, Henry, Judge Morgan, myself and a few others ended up singing Irish ditties much to the amusement of other dinners.
Henry was a regular guy, a lot of fun, a great conservative, the perfect Irish raconteur, a middle-west traditionalist and a fighter for American values.
Our country has lost a real man and genuine patriot. Those of us who knew him KNOW he's resting in peace.

Just imagine the millions of unborn babies he fought so valiantly for...they are all surrounding him...an army of innocent cherubs...welcoming him Home!

ExSoldier: You are misbehaving at the wake of a great man. I suspect that I am in complete agreement with you as a RTKBA absolutist. Henry Hyde disappointed me when he slipped on that vital issue. Nonetheless, he was the greatest Congressman of our time, despite that serious imperfection. His work for the pro-life cause and his tenacious defense of the babies marks him as being to the Congress what Ronaldus Maximus was to the presidency. You are convincing no one by engaging in disorderly conduct at his wake.

In retrospect, the way Bush screwed Linda Tripp over was an indication of staffing errors the Admin made to this day.

This is not a wake. It's a THREAD. But you are correct in that it is unseemly for me to rant in a diatribe where 110+ good folks are praising a man now passed on to the Lord. So I'll move along, now.

Lee Rodgers said on the KSFO Morning Show this morning, that he knew Hyde from way back in his Chicago days, and that Hyde had said to him (he couldn't remember if it was on the air or in private) that Trent Lott sabotaged the Clinton impeachment.

Henry Hyde - great man. He was one of the good guys.
Sad to hear this announcement - first heard it on Rush earlier today.
To: ExSoldier
I don't know anything about his work to preserve the lives of unborn children Then you haven't paid enough attention to form any opinion about him as that was the issue for which he was most prominent - and it is especially in bad taste for you to attack him on the occassion of his death.
To: Brytani
One of the great pro-life converts.
There is a reason the old saying is, “The ZEAL of a convert.”
RIP, sir. You earned it.

I paid enough attention as an opponent in other arenas. I'm not attacking him. Nor is it slander or libel. Truth is an absolute defense anyway. But as long as you folks want to respond to me, I'll come back. If you want to be rid of me, just shut up. I said I'd be moving along. However, I will return to respond if you call me.

A great statesman for the pro-life cause.

I do hope God blessed Hyde with repentant, saving faith in Christ while he lived.
Surely you're not abstracting this concept from Ephesians 2:7-9. The lack of gendered nouns and pronouns in English has led too many to connect "that" (neuter) (of the "that not of yourselves") to "faith" (feminine) and make an erroneous conclusion that a Greek reader would not make. The typical English version adjusts the text to an existing doctrine and also destroys an interesting parallelism in the Greek.

Yes, Linda Tripp deserved a medal. She had been placed under immense pressure to lie and she didn’t.
Its scary what the powers that be with the assistance of the MSM can do to turn the tide of public opinion away from logic.
