heartfelt ping! Henry Hyde stands among a mere handful of honorable Americans for his stand against Evil.
Your fine post and so many others on this thread restore my spirits [along with prayer] during this dark time.
RIP, Mr. Hyde. Those who have forgotten just how potent the Clinton smear machine was need only review your case.
Rest in Peace
my condolances to family and friends...
From the article:
During the height of the impeachment controversy, Rep. Maxine Waters, a left-wing Democrat, tried to scold Hyde: History will not be kind to you. She was wrong. History will remember Henry Hyde for precisely what he was: One of the great congressmen of his generation or any generation.

"Bob Hyde is here on behalf of his Dad, the Honorable Henry J. Hyde, who was not able to be with us today. Congressman Hyde spent more than three decades as a towering figure on Capitol Hill. But he first made his name in Washington more than 60 years ago.
He was on the Georgetown basketball team, and played in the NCAA Eastern championship game in 1943. After college and Navy service in World War II, he returned home to Illinois, and earned a law degree, and made his way into politics. This erudite, scholarly man has walked with kings and kept the common touch.
He won 20 elections, and gave steady service to the people of Illinois for 40 years.
In the House, Congressman Hyde rose to the chairmanship of two committees, Judiciary and International Relations. And from the first day, he was a commanding presence, and he was a man of consequence.
Colleagues were struck by his extraordinary intellect, his deep convictions, and eloquent voice. In committee and in the House chamber, the background noise would stop when Henry Hyde had the floor.
He used his persuasive powers for noble causes. He stood for a strong and purposeful America -- confident in freedom's advance, and firm in freedom's defense. He stood for limited, accountable government, and the equality of every person before the law.
He was a gallant champion of the weak and forgotten, and a fearless defender of life in all its seasons.
Henry Hyde spoke of controversial matters with intellectual honesty and without rancor. He proved that a man can have firm convictions and be a favorite of Democrats and Republicans alike.
Henry likes quoting the adage, "Make new friends, but keep the old; one is silver but the other is gold." To so many on Capitol Hill, Henry Hyde's friendship is gold.
They're quick to say it's not the same Congress without him -- but that we're a better country because he was there. And colleagues will always admire and look up to the gentleman from Illinois, Henry J. Hyde. And, Bob, please tell your Dad a lot of us in Washington love him. (Applause.)

President Bush Notes Pro-Life Stand of Senator Henry Hyde as Reason for Medal of Freedom
In 1994 Hyde said he was "greatly disappointed with the failure of much of the church hierarchy to take an unequivocal stand on abortion."
WASHINGTON, October 31, 2007 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Former Congressman Henry Hyde is an American statesman of great renown. In addition to chairing the House Judiciary Committee, Hyde was President of the Clinton impeachment trial, a high-level participant in the response to the 9-11 attacks, and a major player in the worldwide response to the HIV/AIDS crisis.
However, more than anything else Henry Hyde is known for his stalwart defense of the right to life of unborn children.
In announcing Hyde as a recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom to be awarded November 5, President George Bush noted his pro-life stance first. "Henry J. Hyde has served America with distinction. During his career in the House of Representatives, he was a powerful defender of life and a leading advocate for a strong national defense and for freedom around the world," said the announcement.
Hyde was the first person to win a political victory for the pro-life cause since Roe vs. Wade, with his Hyde Amendment in 1976 banning public spending on abortions.
While in public office, Hyde was often described as "U.S. Roman Catholicism's most distinguished laymen."
Hyde noted with dismay the disastrous effects of the repeated failure of the Catholic hierarchy to remain strong on the abortion issue when dealing with politicians.
In 1994 while the US Bishops were debating whether or not to give communion to pro-abortion Catholic politicians, Hyde told the Chicago Sun Times, "I am greatly disappointed with the failure of much of the church hierarchy to take an unequivocal stand on abortion."
Speaking of the tendency to equate issues such as poverty and healthcare and abortion, Hyde said it provides, "people like Ted Kennedy, Dick Durbin and John Kerry the cover they seek to maintain their Catholic affiliation and at the same time pander to Planned Parenthood."
"If the church doesn't come out strong and condemn those who want to receive Holy Communion while not in the state of sanctifying grace, then the church has lost its moral authority, and that is tragic," he concluded.

Amen.
You should be flamed. He did a lot of good in a lot of areas, and you choose the occasion of his death to complain about one issue where he wasn't perfect.
Prayer for his family.
RIP. A good man.
God rest his soul.
I had tremendous respect for Rep. Hyde during the impeachment soap opera. He stood head and shoulders above the Clintons and their filthy cast of characters. What a contrast.
He was not perfect, but anyone who forcefully stood up for truth and righteousness the way he did, from out of a corrupt Illinois GOP status quo, deserves special recognition.
I can see him dancing in the street, handing out candy and praising Allah.
