Republican Presidential Candidate Debate #10 St. Petersburg, Florida 11/28/07 - Official Discussion Thread
CNN will hold this debate, hosted by Anderson Cooper, with submitted questions in video form via YouTube.
8pm ET/5pm PT
Hosted by Anderson Cooper
Candidates participating:
Not after tonight. Rooty better start circulating his resume.
No problem that Huck has supported illegals?
I have posted here in the past that Hunter doesn't have "it". I have not been able to put my finger on "it" until tonight. My buddies wife, who does not pay any attention to politics until 1 month before the election did not know who Hunter was. The first time he came on she said "he has shifty eyes." All five others agreed with her that that is his problem on TV. Can't get elected in the TV world if TV isn't kind to you. Too bad because I agree with him more than any other candidate. I like your fight analogy.
Who has the job of Feeding and Watering all the Plants at CNN Debates?? They better be getting overtime. Rush is going to have a Field Day. Bet his staff is working right now to find out who these Dem Activists are.
Pray for W and Our Victorious Troops
Wow, do you have a problem with Christians. You just called an awfull lot of us bigots. And I am not even a Huckabee supporter.
“I appreciate your comments about hiring a contractor and not knowing who they are, legal or illegal. We have done that and never even saw the people that painted our house. Had a painting contractor come in to paint our basement and never talked to anyone. Seems to be a mute point for me.”
The same individuals coming to your house for eight years is different than some roofers or painters, or the plumbing contractor having a couple of questionable guys for a one time job.
If Huckabee wins in Iowa that would certainly shake things up a bit. Would be fun! Maybe the social conservative like myself could still have a little pull. What do you say?
Do you really understand what the IRS is and what it does? Your post would indicate “No”.
A couple of off-camera items:
Prior to the start of the debate, Anderson Cooper entertained questions from the audience. A woman asked Cooper whether he is married. The audience broke out in laughter.
During the pre-debate photo op, Rick Baker, the 6' 7" mayor of St. Petersburg, stood next to Fred Thompson. Someone yelled out, "My God, he's taller than Fred!" At that point, Thompson stood on his tip toes. Great audience laughter.
Following the first commercial break, as the cameras went live, Fred Thompson was not on the stage. Anderson Cooper started to look nervous. The cameras panned the audience until Thompson arrived from back stage.
There were substantially more boos and jeers during this debate than during the Orlando debate.
During the second break, Giuliani and Huckabee spent the entire time engaged in conversation.
Well, everybody has a LITTLE problem somewhere...;)
I thought ROOTY was on the ropes most of the night. Fred and Mitt spanked him on the gun issue and after that he just looked “me too!” - like someone’s younger brother wanting to tag along with the big kids.
I’m a Fred supporter, but if he doesn’t move up, I have to start looking for someone to vote for, and it won’t be a NE liberal.
How do you know they were the same people? Mitt’s answer was correct. The homeowner shouldn’t have to question each and every worker regarding their legalization. The issue’s with the company who hired the individuals.
“I agree. I thought Mitt handled the illegal immigrant question extremely well.”
He simply lied.
“For about eight years, Rosales said, he worked on and off landscaping the grounds at Romney’s home, occasionally getting a “buenos dias” from Romney or a drink of water from his wife, Ann.
“She is very nice,” said Rosales, 49.
About 6 miles away in Copado, a 37-year-old man who recently returned to Guatemala from the United States told a similar story, describing long days tending Romney’s 2 1/2-acre grounds.
“They wanted that house to look really nice,” said the worker, who asked to remain anonymous. “It took a long time.”
As Governor Mitt Romney explores a presidential bid, he has grown outspoken in his criticism of illegal immigration. But, for a decade, the governor has used a landscaping company that relies heavily on workers like these, illegal Guatemalan immigrants, to maintain the grounds surrounding his pink Colonial house on Marsh Street in Belmont.
The Globe recently interviewed four current and former employees of Community Lawn Service with a Heart, the tiny Chelsea-based company that provides upkeep of Romney’s property. All but one said they were in the United States illegally.
The employees told the Globe that company owner Ricardo Saenz never asked them to provide documents showing their immigration status and knew they were illegal immigrants.
“He never asked for papers,” said Rosales, who said he had paid smugglers about $5,000 to take him across the US-Mexican border and settled in Chelsea.
The workers said they were paid in cash at $9 to $10 an hour and sometimes worked 11-hour days.
Romney never inquired about their status, they said.
In addition to maintaining the governor’s property, they also tended to the lawn at the house owned by Romney’s son, Taggart, less than a mile away on the same winding street.
Asked by a reporter yesterday about his use of Community Lawn Service with a Heart, Romney, who was hosting the Republican Governors Association conference in Miami, said, “Aw, geez,” and walked away.
What is the big deal about Anderson Cooper being married? Is he gay or something?
Mayor Baker is about 6 6. He’s for Romney.
Someone should ask this liberal propagandist to prove he was a fag in the service and is not just making it up after he retired.
yitbos
So that's why I like the guy!
Sorry, but that is a major problem for the Huck. He even build a consulate, with taxpoayer money for the Mexicans....and it was free to them!
I’m with Romney or Thompson. Ron Paul should be going open-looped with Kucinich in a third party.
