“I appreciate your comments about hiring a contractor and not knowing who they are, legal or illegal. We have done that and never even saw the people that painted our house. Had a painting contractor come in to paint our basement and never talked to anyone. Seems to be a mute point for me.”

The same individuals coming to your house for eight years is different than some roofers or painters, or the plumbing contractor having a couple of questionable guys for a one time job.

How do you know they were the same people? Mitt’s answer was correct. The homeowner shouldn’t have to question each and every worker regarding their legalization. The issue’s with the company who hired the individuals.

We need to talk, I lived in San Diego County for year’s, I had a pool service guy and I had a garbage pickup guy I never asked any of them if they were illegal. It never came to my mind to do that.
