During a campaign swing for his wife, former President Bill Clinton said flatly yesterday that he opposed the war in Iraq from the beginning a statement that is more absolute than his comments before the invasion in March 2003.
Before the invasion, Mr. Clinton did not precisely declare that he opposed the war. A week before military action began, however, he did say that he preferred to give weapons inspections more time and that an invasion was not necessary to topple Saddam Hussein.
At the same time, he also spoke supportively about the 2002 Senate resolution that authorized military action against Iraq.
Advisers to Mr. Clinton said yesterday that he did oppose the war, but that it would have been inappropriate at the time for him, a former president, to oppose in a direct, full-throated manner the sitting presidents military decision.
Mr. Clinton has said several times since the war began that he would not have attacked Iraq in the manner that President Bush had done. As early as June 2004, he said, I would not have done it until after Hans Blix finished the job, referring to the weapons inspections there before the war.

Back at the time of the first Gulf War, some of the anti-war Democrats tried to stop GHWB from liberating Kuwait. Bill Clinton came down firmly on both sides of the issue.
At the same time, he also spoke supportively about the 2002 Senate resolution that authorized military action against Iraq.
In other words, the polling numbers were ambiguous, so he had to have some statement on record on both sides of the issue. That way, whichever way the wind blew (no pun intended), he could claim to be on that side. That's not leadership, that's following...badly.
Does anyone believe Billy boy?
I’ve heard Bill Clinton on tv say we had to take out Saddam. But hey let him lie his as off, that’s what he’s good at.
Clinton defends successor's push for war
Says Bush 'couldn't responsibly ignore' chance Iraq had WMDs

(CNN) -- Former President Clinton has revealed that he continues to support President Bush's decision to go to war in Iraq but chastised the administration over the abuses at Abu Ghraib prison.
"I have repeatedly defended President Bush against the left on Iraq, even though I think he should have waited until the U.N. inspections were over," Clinton said in a Time magazine interview that will hit newsstands Monday, a day before the publication of his book "My Life."
Clinton, who was interviewed Thursday, said he did not believe that Bush went to war in Iraq over oil or for imperialist reasons but out of a genuine belief that large quantities of weapons of mass destruction remained unaccounted for.
Noting that Bush had to be "reeling" in the wake of the attacks of September 11, 2001, Clinton said Bush's first priority was to keep al Qaeda and other terrorist networks from obtaining "chemical and biological weapons or small amounts of fissile material."
"That's why I supported the Iraq thing. There was a lot of stuff unaccounted for," Clinton said in reference to Iraq and the fact that U.N. weapons inspectors left the country in 1998.
"So I thought the president had an absolute responsibility to go to the U.N. and say, 'Look, guys, after 9/11, you have got to demand that Saddam Hussein lets us finish the inspection process.' You couldn't responsibly ignore [the possibility that] a tyrant had these stocks," Clinton said.
Pressed on whether the Iraq war was worth the cost to the United States, Clinton said he would not have undertaken the war until after U.N. chief weapons inspector Hans Blix "finished his job."
Weapons inspectors led by Blix scoured Iraq for three and a half months before the U.S.-led invasion in March 2003 but left after President Bush issued an ultimatum to Iraqi President Saddam Hussein to leave the country.
"I want it to have been worth it, even though I didn't agree with the timing of the attack," Clinton said."

” If we fail to respond today, Saddam and all those who would follow in his footsteps will be emboldened tomorrow by the knowledge that they can act with impunity, even in the face of a clear message from the United Nations Security Council and clear evidence of a weapons of mass destruction program.
But if we act as one, we can safeguard our interests and send a clear message to every would-be tyrant and terrorist that the international community does have the wisdom and the will and the way to protect peace and security in a new era. That is the future I ask you all to imagine. That is the future I ask our allies to imagine.
If we look at the past and imagine that future, we will act as one together. And we still have, God willing, a chance to find a diplomatic resolution to this, and if not, God willing, the chance to do the right thing for our children and grandchildren. “
BJ Clinton, 17Feb1998
Well I flatly don’t give a rat’s rear end what x42 asserts about anything. If his lips are moving, he’s lying, so it doesn’t matter what he says today, or what he said 5 years ago.
This is ironic because Bush chose to go to war based on many of the reasons repeatedly cited by Clinton throughout his presidency.
The day that he dies, the video of him wagging his finger, ... forevermore, that will be the most remembered image of him.”

True, that’s the image I associate with him now, almost 8 years later. Good.

A good question to ask her while she trolls for votes in Miami is did she support her husband’s decision to send Elian back to Cuba.
That “Horny Hick” (Thanks Ann!!) tell the truth? Oh please!!!

U.S. and Britain halt airstrikes against Iraq
Sub-headline, Citing significant damage, Clinton says Saddam must be ousted to avoid future threats.
BAGHDAD, Iraq President Clinton ended the air campaign against Iraq on Saturday saying: Im confident we have achieved our mission. Yet despite suffering more than 400 punishing bomb and missile strikes over four nights, Saddam Husseins government remained defiant and said it would bar any return of U.N. arms inspectors to the country.
SNIP
In blunt language, Clinton called for the ouster of the Iraqi leader. So long as Saddam remains in power, he will remain a threat to his people, his region and the World.

So lets look at just how much of a continued threat Saddam really was AFTER Clinton made the above statement. This is just a partial list of the times Iraq fired at American and British aircraft patrolling the Northern No Fly Zone during Operation Northern Watch. Some of the data was not available, like the entire year of 2000. The list also does not include other violations, such as locking air defense radar onto Coalition aircraft. If all the violations were included, the list would be much much longer.
Sooooooo with all of these documented attacks on our aircraft patrolling the Northern No-Fly Zone after Clinton said Saddam must be ousted, why is Bush and Cheney being persecuted for doing just that? I feel Bushs only mistake was placing too much emphasis on the WMD and not building a better case based on the countless other violations of the cease fire.

Does anyone have a link or quote to anything he said after Bush’s ordered invasion?
This guy makes me ill and I am wanting to prove this to those who are agreeing with him.
“EASILY proved a lie... “
So true. However, liberals don’t like to be confused with the truth. And, when presented with the truth, they disregard it if it doesn’t coincide with their agenda.
In a few years he’ll claim he supported it before he opposed it.
His lips are moving again. Nuff said!
Go watch this video.

I wish more people would look at the Text of Joint Resolution On Iraq Passed By The United States Congress 296-133 by the House of Representatives and 77-23 by the Senate on October 10 and 11, 2002. There are 23 reasons why we went to war against Iraq and many them did not have anything to do with WMD.
If I were Bush or any GOP Presidential hopeful, I would point this out time and again. It is all there including violations of the ceasefire.
