SPARTANBURG, S.C. Hillary Clinton said Tuesday that if elected U.S. president she would call on former Secretary of State Colin Powell as part of a bipartisan diplomatic delegation to be sent abroad to restore America's image.
Noting Powell's foreign policy expertise, Clinton publicly offered fresh details in her plan often described in general terms that she says she would institute before her would-be inauguration.
Clinton has previously mentioned Powell and George H.W. Bush as potential members of that delegation during interviews, but rarely names names when speaking publicly.
But Tuesday she specifically told a group of black ministers who were endorsing her in Spartanburg, S.C., that to restore the country's reputation, she would tap the man who under President Bush led the foreign policy argument to invade Iraq in pursuit of weapons of mass destruction.
"I won't even wait until I'm inaugurated, but as soon as I'm elected I'm going to be asking distinguished Americans of both parties people like Colin Powell, for example and others who can represent our country well, including someone I know very well, " she said smiling while making reference to her husband and former President Bill Clinton. "Because I want to send a message heard across the world. The era of cowboy diplomacy is over."

Big deal. When Bill Clinton was president, he tapped everything in a skirt.
Oh, this is good. This is smart. She is clever. Not that I believe she’d act on her word though, but the thought is clever indeed.
Does Powell's wife know that she's planning to tap him?
So Powell is ok with this? The mighty truly fall.
Powell’s career peaked with his speech at the UN outlining Iraq’s WMDs. All downhill from there.
Who is Hillary Matters going to tap for the President?
Getting desperate on the short resume train ... Maybe Monica is available?
More than likely she was referring to Huma, not Bill.
I’m not usually a tinfoil type, but this whole thing screams of some Clinton-Bush dynasty alliance sort of thing.
Exactly. What makes her think that Colin Powell’s interested?
That alone is a reason not to vote for her...............
I wonder if Hillary has considered Powell for running mate. Of course that could be dangerous since it might increase the chances of an assassination attempt.
I’ve always thought Colin Powell a good and decent man. That he left the Bush Administration (was “invited” to leave, actually) because he disagreed with Bush on the handling of the Iraq war was unfortunate, but the man stood his ground. He might see it necessary to get back into the political arena if it means for the good of his country.
And what if he says no?
Obama should say he'd make Beyonce (in that gold ring dress she wears for the Direct TV ads) the foreign policy expert. Hubba hubba.
The last black guy the Clinton’s tapped ended up dead in an airplane crash.
In retrospect, he looked more like an opportunistic fraud than a principled man.
Odd that her first mention of this would be to a group of black ministers...what a phoney/fraudulent piece of work that HC is....it's so obvious she takes them (and all of us) for fools. She's more than willing to drop any particular name when it suits her purpose. Shame on anyone who falls for it. Calling on Colin Powell is NOT the same as having already discussed it with him with the understanding that he'd be willing to follow through with it. (...such a wicked, evil woman...)
