PALM BEACH -- Conservative columnist Ann Coulter is nationally notorious for vitriolic broadsides, but she has been unnerved by invective she received at her Palm Beach home. So much so that she got the county property appraiser to remove her name from public records identifying where she lives.
In doing so, she won an exemption from public disclosure of her address, allowed by law for victims of stalkers or harassment.
Coulter, 45, has called Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards a ''faggot'' and said she wished he would be killed by terrorists. She once said President Clinton ''could be a lunatic'' and wrote of a group of widows of men killed in the World Trade Center that she had 'never seen people enjoying their husbands' deaths so much.''
So maybe it came as no surprise when somebody delivered a greeting card to her home in March with this salutation: ``You self-aggrandizing -- sociopath!! The only thing left after a nuclear war are you and cockroaches.''
Her house is one of 2,674 properties in Palm Beach County whose owners are confidential in property appraiser records. Homeowners must complete an affidavit stating why they should be exempt from the state's public records law.
Florida law allows people in occupations where harm could come to them -- judges, prosecutors, police officers, firefighters and child abuse investigators, for example -- to remain anonymous in those records.
Also allowed an exemption from public disclosure are victims of domestic violence, aggravated stalking, harassment and aggravated battery. Coulter cited that proviso to get an exemption, but her application is not public record. Unlike the occupational exemption, this one expires after five years.
A person who receives an exemption must submit another affidavit requesting confidentiality every time he or she relocates.

She did not call that faggot Edwards, a faggot.
Wow! They actually got this one right. It was only a group of them. Not ALL of them as is usually implied or stated outright!
Ann's older than I am?
Wouldn't have guessed it.
Thank you for complying with the rules...
I wanted to draft a letter to the Post this morning when I read the article but didn’t take the time to do it. They unfairly panned Coulter, once again, for the “Bill Maher” comment that he wanted Cheney dead at the hands of terrorists . . . giving her quote about Edwards without reference to it’s context. Leftwing liars writing for the uninformed.
She may not be genteel, but a liar she is not.
I throw in the yellow flag on the Miami Herald’s choice of words in this article.
More lies from the MSM.
There is a better way to have “confidential ownership” of your own home. You’d think a lawyer would know about land trusts and confidential beneficiaries.
“C’mon, it was a joke. I would never insult gays by suggesting that they are like John Edwards. That would be mean,” Coulter told the New York Times.
LOL.
It would take a lot more than that to unnerve Ann. Maybe the author of this article sent the card and is using this article as a means to pat himself on the back.
Why not give directions too Larree?
``You self-aggrandizing — sociopath!! The only thing left after a nuclear war are you and cockroaches.’’
I have to admit, it’s a great line that can be used in so many ways.
No on both counts: she said something to the effect that she could call him a faggot, but that would be unfair to faggots, and when she got grief for that while Bill Maher got a pass on his wish that VP Cheney would be killed by terrorists, said next time she’d do the uncontroversial thing and wish terrorist would kill Edwards.
Bizarrely, the left which natters on about ‘nuance’ can’t understand nuanced rhetoric.
Wonder what his address is.
She should get the feds involved. I think it's a violation of federal law for anybody except a postal employee to place anything into a home mail box.
