Trent has been pissed since the Strom deal.
Haley will appoint Chip Pickering or Charlie Ross
and we will be better off.

” You know, say what you want about Trent Lott, he was serving a useful purpose in his current capacity in the Senate as he knows all the rules of the Senate backwards and forwards, and how Republicans could use those rules to their best advantage. He has vast institutional knowledge. I believe he will be missed by his colleagues as he knows so much about how the joint runs.”

and therein is the problem, it shouldn’t be a ‘ joint ‘

If he resigns before the end of the year he is bound by the lobbying laws in place now (one year hiatus between resignation and lobbying). If he waits until later he is bound by the laws that will come into play in 2008, precluding any lobbying activity for two years after he leaves offiee. If he intends to exert any kind of influence in DC, resigning now is the smart thing to do. So it’s probably about money.

I will miss Senator Slotts greatly. Sarc.

His friends in the “gaming industry” will probably miss him more.

Haley Barbour will appoint a real Conservative... as he is a REAL Conservative...

Mississippi has a great Governor, one that should make the people in that state very proud.

The best thing Trent Lott has going for him is his willingness to humiliate his self.

Isn’t that what we said about Virginia and Montana in the last election? There is NO “solid red” state left. Even Salt Lake City has a whacko mayor. I don’t like Lott, but if this ends up Dem, it’s another step toward them getting their 60 votes, regardless of how the presidential election turns out.

I thought Trent was on a vacation junket with Dirty Harry somewhere in Latin America? Maybe the Dirt got to him.

I won’t miss Trent “Bendsa” Lott one iota. He is a spineless, worthless, turtle-testicled non-leader who did everything in his power to torpedo the house managers and gave X42 cover for the really heinous things he did. He is the reason it was “all about sex”. He also thought he was immune from the voting public and their wishes so he never bothered to give a rat’s patoot about what we wanted, only what his political big money people wanted. He had no clue why we unwashed peasants would not want amnesty for illegals.

I say good riddance to another jelly-spined greasy RINO (and the plastic hair he rode in on).

running a hillary clone rino is a sure way to depress the votes to lose republican seats.

“This is horrendous news. Not that I am a big fan of Lotts but the amount of Senate seats we have to defend this year was already lop sided, and I assume that this seat had been considered safe, so we are adding one more.”

True, but if the rumor is true that Lott is leaving now so that he can avoid waiting two years to become a lobbyist, as required by the new law, then that shows you right there that he is not a man of principle. If, and I do say IF, Lott is leaving because he wants to make money as a lobbyist that just goes to show you he is a phony who could care less about the future of our country.

“I really hope that everyone who today claims they will not vote in 2008 if their favorite candidate is not the Presidential nominee at least works their butts off to keep our Senate seats, and votes R for the other offices.”

It’s not about not voting in 2008 if our favorite presidential candidate is not the nominee, at least that’s not what it’s about for me. It’s about keeping the heart and soul of the republican party intact. Voting for Rooty will totally rip the heart and soul out of our party. Once we nominate a democrat in republican clothing the republican party will become irrelevant. One democrat party is enough, we don’t need two of them.
